The hotel is large and easy enough to find, just a few minutes from the ferry port. I was travelling by motorcycle and was able to leave it in the car park near the reception entrance, I felt pretty relaxed about the bike security and indeed there were no issues. It's also close to the centre of Rothesay and is probably no more than about a 15 minute walk.
Although I wouldn’t stay here again - due to the condition of my room, I have to say that the service from the staff in the dining room for my evening meal and for breakfast was good - and the food was decent enough.
My room was pretty average but it was nice and quiet (I didn't really hear other guests and with it being set away from the road there was no traffic noise).
Having said that it's reasonable for me to say the room I had could at very best be described as tired and in need of a refurbish.
The shower functionally was fine but all the screws in the wall handle in the shower cubicle were thick with rust, the grout wasn't clean and a number of tiles were cracked. The toilet seat seemed to be cheap replacement of the original and the colour didn’t match, the bedroom carpet was dirty and the skirting boards were dire (with a lot of chipped paint).
I cant recall writing a negative review like this for a long long time but it wasn't great.
Although it seemed priced at the 'going rate' it didn't come close to the other six accommodations I stayed at on this trip.
If the hotel ream are interested I have a series of photographs that support the points I have made and I would be happy to share them directly with you if you wish.
The location was brilliant and the hotel had a great atmosphere. The staff were extremely friendly, helpful and polite. The room was very comfortable and spacious and the lounge area was very welcoming and relaxing. The view from the hotel was also stunning!
The restaurant staff were also fantastic. The restaurant catered to our milk allergy brilliantly, which was an added bonus.
Thank you to all the staff - we had a fantastic stay!
Nothing!
Breakfast was excellent and great choice of things to eat. Dinner very good too. Very friendly staff and beds extremely comfortable.
Enjoyed the old world charm but scaffolding at hotel front and gardens deterred from the overall appearance of property.
The hotel/communal areas were spotless, and the rooms were clean.
The view from the hotel was picturesque and location was good.
Staff polite, friendly and very helpful.
Very little noise from corridors or neighbouring rooms.
Although the bedroom was clean, there was however, a used sanitary towel wrapped up in toilet roll behind bathroom door on window ledge.
New bathrooms are lovely.Beds extremely comfortable.
The sorting out of the bill next morning- trying to work out dinner costs ( included in package) . Same happens every year to us, They need a better system to work with a party of over 2 people.
Faded elegance. The location is close to the ferry and high street with a superb view of the sea. The staff were very helpful and attentive. The breakfast had a good variety on offer and the evening meals were good.
The parking is limited and the entrance which is covered in scaffolding was initially off putting. Parts of the corridors were in need of redecoration.
We had a great time, staff were very professional and attentive, would like to stay again and would highly recommend.
Great situation. In its hey day it was stunning. Sadly it is very tired looking now and needs an injection of money. That said our room was clean and the staff were great. Our meal was excellent and the breakfast was very good also.
We so enjoyed sitting on the balcony in the evening looking at the amazing view with our G&T's
Just that sadly it is very tired looking now with ancient wallpaper, wood chip in places and frayed carpets. The windows need attending to also. Having said that it wouldn't stop me going back for an overnighter.
Staff were exceptionally friendly, rooms very comfortable and drinks and meals good value. As a setting it is superb, the terrace is a wonderful place to watch the world go by.
Location, proportions and architecture of the building.
Internally it’s a little dated.
Parking was tricky. Not enough spaces
Good location,great stay
Could be doing with modernisation and improving food
