Georgian gorgeous
Pros:

Hotel is down a quiet cobbled street just off a busy Main Street. Very peaceful. A few minutes walk from Liverpool Street railway and underground station which has multiple underground and overground connections to travel all over London.
The hotel is a grade 2 building. Inside is authentic Georgian furniture with modern stuff mostly hidden (In our room anyway: TV behind a fold away mirror. Fridge and safe behind cupboard doors). We had the Sarah Marchant room (all rooms are named - not numbered) which was a luxury double. Very spacious. Had 2 shower heads so me and partner able to shower at same time. Only negatives I can come up with is that the shower floor had a couple of minor cracks in it and the toilet had copper on the seating which was initially cold to sit on.
Contrary to previous reviews, kettle and tea/coffee are now in each room. Air conditioning in this heatwave was a godsend.
Several communal areas in the hotel including a library, tapestry room, lounge and small outside area. Honesty bar is nice but as non-drinkers we didn’t use this. Staff are friendly and offer tour of the hotel facilities. Rooms are cleaned & towels/linen changed daily. Didn’t order breakfast or room service but saw & smelt other guests orders which looked and smelt yummy (hotel is close to plenty of places that do breakfast & other meal restaurants).
Also, previous reviews said you need to leave your key at reception if you go out - but you don’t. You do have to ring the bell to get back in the hotel but I never waited more than 30 seconds to be let back in.
Yes. It is slightly pricey, but worth it as a treat. We were not disappointed. We were gutted to be leaving. Thank you Batty Langley’s for a wonderful stay.

Feeling Flushed!!
Pros:

The room was wonderfully clean, apart from a dusty light shade on my bedside lamp which actually fit the antique aesthetic rather aptly! The decor was stunning as you would expect with such a high quality hotel. Attention to detail was magnificent and majority of staff were friendly and welcoming. We really enjoyed the history of the hotel and the slightly eccentric charm. Location was fantastic!! Literally in the middle of the Spitalfields area of London with so many incredible places to explore and dine at. A ten minute (slow) walk to Liverpool Street Station which was perfect for us as we were travelling to Tottenham Stadium for a concert. We ordered room service for breakfast the following day and it was perfection. One of the best bacon rolls I’ve ever had!

Cons:

There were significant building works taking place during our stay. Although we were warned about this with a blanket email, when I responded to voice my concerns and ask a few questions in relation, I received no reply. My communications were completely ignored. In the blanket email that was sent out to all guests, we were assured that no disruption would occur with the building works and that there was no need for concern. No discounts or complimentary offerings were made in order to apologise for the inconvenience. Furthermore, we were only made aware of the work taking place once the booking was made. This felt a little underhand and in poor taste. Despite correspondence assuring us that we would not be impacted by the building works, we were actually significantly affected. The builders and their scaffolding were directly outside our window, they could hear us very clearly in our room and vice versa, we were actually woken by the noise of building work and the builders having an early morning chat! Our other issue was with our toilet. The flush seemed to break the morning of our stay. As we were leaving that day, there seemed little need to report it immediately as we were hours away from checking out and we would simply be in the way of the maintenance team whilst they repaired the flush. Instead I reported both the broken toilet and the noise/privacy issues with the front desk as we were checking out. This was deeply disappointing. No apologies were offered, no explanation or sign of goodwill for the inconvenience. I wasn’t expecting anything ridiculous, this is a business. However, as we had spent a fair amount on both our room and breakfast in bed that was somewhat shared with the builders, perhaps a small discount on our food would’ve been nice. Or simply an apology! Instead we received a shrug and a bill. Disappointing customer service and would not recommend staying at this hotel, certainly until the building work is complete.
