Stayed here many times before, it was always a pleasure and a highlight of traveling in Sri.
The rooms were incredibly dirty.
The ventilation system seemed to blow air into the room instead of extracting it. The bathroom was covered in thick layers of dust, not just a little bit, but actual dust clouds. This was not the result of skipping cleaning for a few days. It was clearly a longer-term problem.
There was dust on the beds, dust in the bathroom and dust in places that should never be missed by housekeeping. It is impossible to believe that housekeeping made the beds but somehow did not notice the state of the room.
Then, when the bathroom door was opened, a cockroach of around 5 cm came out. A member of staff killed it and quickly pushed it into the hallway. My daughter saw what happened and heard him stamping on it.
The worst part was not only the dirt itself, but the way staff seemed to quickly try to hide the problem. That was the final straw.
We were then shown another room, but when I entered, someone was already rushing to remove dust there as well. In other words, it looked like exactly the same issue again.
For us, this was unacceptable. A room can have a small issue, but this was not a small issue. This was a serious lack of hygiene, maintenance and honesty.
