We just had lunch and it was lovely men had the curry… ladies had fish and chips… staff very friendly a warm welcome… waiter very attentive….would recommend…
Lovely atmosphere, friendly staff and good character
In our room the mattress was too hard and springs uncomfortable
Bathroom door didn’t lock and basin plug didn’t work
Excellent location, generally well presented, car parking very convenient and helpful staff.
Shower (over bath) very weak pressure. Decor a little 'tired'.
Large spacious room and bathroom, good quick lift, they allowed us to store our e-bikes securely in their ballroom overnight. Staff were very friendly and helpful. The train station is opposite, plenty of shops, bars, cafes, restaurants nearby.
Shower wasn't great but was usable, not a lot of pressure which might have been something to do with the drought or being on the 2nd floor.
Good value, comfortable ambience
Could have done with air con, although there was a fan in the room.
We have been to the Orwell a few times in the past. Always friendly and excellent food
The room we were given was not like the description on booking.com small and no bath, the shower water pressure was very weak.
Our 2nd time here. It's convenient to see our friends and do our own thing too. Our bathroom had been re done with beautiful big tiles. But then the bedroom had no wardrobe , paint not finished in places. It was clean but instead of spending so much on the bathroom. Spread the money on full room. Doesn't have to be over the top. Just nice and finished off properly. We understand it's older building and been left. All though that seems like a big moan. It's not just making some points. We will be back soon 😁
The property was stunning, the architecture and the buildings and decor , portraits and history combined, a very pleasant stay. Rooms were lovely, restaurant and bar area , a great relaxing atmosphere

Central location. Character hotel retaining many original features plus good car park . Harry’s bar superbly fitted out and good atmosphere being open to general public
Paying for everything in advance rather than accumulating on single bill
Loved it all

The staff were friendly. The location was very convenient.
We stayed at the Orwell about 30 years ago for a wedding reception and it seems the carpets and fittings have not been replaced since then. The net curtains were torn and the carpets were very tired. Our bathroom was also very old with a bath and overhead shower and plastic curtain which is not what I would expect for a hotel nowadays especially the price we paid.
Beautiful place, room was nice, excellent location, staff friendly
No wardrobe, eggs at breakfast weren’t that nice rubbery
Nice friendly local hotel. Nice to have a bar and gardens.
