Upon arrival it seemed a little run down but ok, you could tell something was being worked on by the amount of decorators/plumbing equipment outside the room next door and the sound of drilling, banging that was going on at 6.30pm on a friday. However within 2 hours that changed.
I was going to a music gig nearby and as i left a woman in the reception area stopped at the bottom of the stairs and made a comment about how i was dressed and my breasts, which made me uncomfortable. Then as i was checking my directions she came back towards me and continued to make comments and then asked me to come to her room (to help with her bags she was carrying) which made me even more uncomfortable. The receptionist came out and asked if i was ok and that was when the woman left not repeating her request for assistance. This whole interaction made me feel very unsafe and that the hotel was not suitable for solo female travelers.
That night upon my return i turned on the room lights to discover one of the three switches did nothing, one turned on the bathroom and the 3rd was for the above door light Which not only did not come on 3 of of 5 times. but the forth time it did come on and start flashing indicating a possible electrical fault and running the risk of an epeleptic seizure.
The following morning things went down hill. Upon going to make a coffee i found the wall socket by the kettle was loose coming away from the wall. This meant that i did not make a coffee as i honestly did not trust the socket with an electrical appliance containing water not to have a risk of electrocuting me. I went for a show and then discovered that
1) the bath had no plug
2) the shower hose had someones (black) hair (mine is red) in clumps cought in it.
3) the cold water had almost no pressure meaning that to get anything coming out of the shower head you had to use mostly the scalding hot water. The cold water pressure issue was the same from shower or the taps.
4) when putting on the shower the water spurted out in multiple dirrections from the tap join. meaning that the nearly scalding water was coming directly at my shins.
5) the whole tap area was moving back and forth as you turned it on and off.
i checked out as soon as i could and told reception these issues and as an appology she did make me a coffee. She offered to give me compensation for another nights stay there another time which honestly i would have considered if the issues had not been about the health and safety and hygiene issues of staying there. She said she was going to look herself at the issues and i offered to show them to her which she declined.
Within an hour of checking out i also discovered that during my stay i had had visitors to my bed. In the form of something that bit me in my sleep. These were not there when i went to sleep.
in short Haylands Hotel is as in my experience poor hygine, is infested, with heath and safety risks putting yourself at literal harm if you stay there.
I gotta say it’s a shame about the lack of care - but …… for me our stay was actually quite special it was the first time me and my boyfriend had stayed the night together anywhere and woken up together - and no matter what the surroundings were we were in our own little world ❤️
I have never ever been to a hotel like this. As I got into the room I looked round and it was dirty smells really bad so disgusting I walked back out and asked for my money back and the woman on the reservation desk told me to do one and piss off.
I will make sure I tell everyone I can on every site never stay at this hotel.
Booked a quad room as bringing son to visit Coventry University. Checked in, and was given a double room - didn't really want to be sleeping with my son! Swapped rooms to the correct type of room, and the room stank of cigarette smoke even though it was a non- smoking room; carpets were covered in goodness- knows- what- stains; white powder in corner of the room. Got the receptionist to come and have a look, and she was very apologetic and showed us a 3rd room. It was marginally better than the 2nd room - it at least didn't smell! But there were bits of something (pet food?) on the carpet, wee around the toilet, dodgy wiring, and the radiator was unable to be turned down so it was boiling!
I managed to get a refund agreed through Hotels.com that I had booked with, and found another hotel that had availability, because we just couldn't stay here!
What a discrace this hotel is lets the city down
There is a strong smell of weed
I was going to book a night but after looking around i left quickly
Where to begin ? Firstly I will say the receptionist was lovely. BUT...This place is described on their website as 'luxury hotel' but NOTHING could be further from the truth, it is a absolute doss house, the extreme filth is nauseating. I would never have stayed here but my eldests friend booked it and she didn't do her research, and not wanting to leave a gaggle of early 20's girls alone I reluctantly stayed. This is a true house of horrors. The entrance is promising, the picture of the house in the 1930's shows what a beautiful place this once was. Once you ascend the stairs it plummets in standards, hardboarding and old Formica covering the original features, wires dangling all around, sticky surfaces and bad smells, cigarettes, weed, BO. The place was last decorated by Ray Charles and Stevie Wonder in the 80's by the look.... The corridors are walked by disheveled old men with no teeth and bad habits. Then there's the rooms, oh my gosh...the filth, the decay. Obviously these owners have vastly different standards to what a modern traveller would expect, cleaning, hygiene, maintenance, if you're staying then you'll keep you shoes on rather than touch the stain ridden carpet, the beds are stained old divan full of random hairs and specks of the unidentified..and the pillows...well ,see the pictures. Food crumbs in the corners, on the window cill, behind the bed. The toilet was a mixture of different non fitting parts and literally falling apart, the seat a health hazard, every corner and skirting thick with grime, I had a shower but I still feel dirty, I will throw away the clothes I wore and spray myself down with Dettol before I enter my house, my skin is crawling from microscopic beasties. The best option for this place is a wrecking ball, it's on its last legs. Shame but it's beyond saving
Nothing
The whole place was disgusting. I wouldn’t even let me dog stay here!!!!
Inhumane to say the least
Ok
Both rooms bathroom taps no workings probably children struggling for shower mixers water terrible
the building is full of the musty smell, the room is very dirty. The carpet has loads of stains. The disaster was the fire alarm run suddenly at 3am when I was deeply sleeping, the sound was very sharp, scared me to jump up, but there was no any fire, it just run randomly, seriously that’s unreasonable, made me feel like heart attack. I can’t sleep anymore after that, apart of the musty smell, dirty room, the randomly sharp fire alarm was ridiculous, the only thing that I needed for a hotel had been exploited.
Quiet room, comfortable bed.
Now this is strange - out of a selection of bottles and food packets left on the desk, two full bottles of tonic water 'vanished' while we were out.
Leaves a nasty taste in the mouth - has our luggage been gone through? Was anything else taken that I haven't noticed yet?
Nice staff, clean room, comfortable, good price. Thanks
