Wonderful location - bang average short order food menu
Pros:

A fabulous location

Cons:

The bed was very small. I had stayed there a year ago and the food menu is much more restrictive. The actual menu on the night was even shorter than the on line one. All short order options decently cooked but no interesting choices or even a range of usual pub menu home cooked options

Pleasant overnight stay as usual.
Pros:

The friendliness and flexibility of the staff - flexibility certainly more so than the previous managers. Rooms, food etc much the same, freshly cooked, tasty and massive portions. There was the addition of a biriyani on the menu. Room rather hot but that was the weather.

Good location on Hadrians wall trek.
Pros:

Location from Hadrians wall trail. Good breakfast.

Cons:

A very uncomfortable bed. No plug sockets near bed to charge phones or watches.

Pros:

Conveniently situated for the Hadrian's Wall path and not that far a walk to the Roman Army museum. The room offers a lot of space. Dinner was impecable, nicely cooked and tasty. Petty that starters came at the same time as the main dishes.
The staff is okey-ish.

Cons:

Price-wise I thought it was on the steep side, especially for what you get...a slighlty outdated bathroom and a room with sight to the railway track.
The staff, as said, was okey, but also not more than that. Pretty unimpressed by their guests it seemed. The breakfast was so so...felt hurried with veggie saucage from the microwave.

All that glitters is not gold!
Pros:

Location. Breakfast cooked well. Serves Hawkstone Beers

Cons:

Uncomfortable bed. Mattress springs gone. Issue reported previously in other comments. Had to sleep on the floor! . A good night’s sleep is CRITICAL. The other comments below are to give fair warning.
Furniture very tired and seat from our room had been removed for a broken leg.
Room 6 is above bar so noisy until late. Also you hear everything said in the corridor with doors opening and closing without adequate sound proofing or door seals.
WiFi unavailable in the night
Blind on window doesn’t keep the sun out.
Don’t expect gastro pub food. Very ordinary and limited choice with nothing ‘healthy’ on the menu.
Concerned there was no fire escape route plan in the room
Very very expensive for a very moderate place.
Owner advised of issues, feigned no knowledge of key issues ( but clear from other comments!)

Ripped off!
Pros:

Clean and good location

Cons:

Food very poor quality. Owners not welcoming or respectful to staff. Most expensive hotel on our six day walk with the worst overall standard.

I could not recommend staying there
Pros:

It was reasonably convenient for walking the Pennine Way. The bar area was quite homely.

Cons:

The rooms were below average and expensive for what they are. The dining room is soulless and the evening meal was poor and overpriced.

Greenhead
Pros:

Clean bedroom and bathroom, in good.comdition.

Cons:

There was a feeling of slight incompetence at check-in - the person didn't seem very sure of the booking system. There was nowhere downstairs to relax apart from the dining room, half of which spilled over into a functional back room with no atmosphere. The evening food was good although we waited over 45 minutes but the breakfast was disappointimg. Hardly any fruit. Warm milk and a poached egg that did not resemble any poaches egg I have ever seen, being unusually pale and almost yolkless, accompanied by dry toast. Coffee was very weak and stewed on a ring. It.was not replenished. One of us found several hairs in their cooked breakfast. My glass of red wine from an open bottle was cloudy and had obviously been open for some days, if not weeks. On a positive note the bedroom was clean although the beds were very uncomfortable. A bit pricey too.

Amazing food , nice hotel
Pros:

The hotel was lovely. Very nice with excellent food and serving staff. The hostel/barn across the road was rough. Toilets and shower room were shocking. Especially for £120

Cons:

Hotel was great but hostel needs work all round and that’s not been fussy . I appreciate it’s a hostel but still not good enough

Ideally located for a walking holiday.
Pros:

This is a modern restaurant with rooms. It is well located for the Pennine Way. Lovely breakfast, freshly cooked and hot - good choice. Make sure to book a table in advance if you’d like dinner.

Cons:

My room was above the bar and there was some noise from below. The room was nicely decorated but lacked character. A chair would’ve been useful indeed there was plenty of room for an armchair or two. The window blind gave some privacy from onlookers on the road, but really there needed to be Curtains or a blackout blind. This would’ve given the room the extra special feeling it needed for the price.
