Location great, Food in the restaurant was amazing.
We were visiting Newport for a funeral and decided to book for 3 nights
We checked ourselves into the room, which is described as a ‘deluxe’ double room or a so called ‘Genius’ host /4 star hotel
We were shocked at the low standard with the following issues, all of which we reported and photographed, of which were sent to Booking.com
Entrance hall was overflowing with boxes and which looked like rubbish under the stairs – not a great welcome
Corridor blocked with cleaning equipment - surely a fire hazard
In the room:
Stained and torn bedding
Toilet flush broken(but still flushes), mechanism left on the windowsill
Sink plug broken
Two blown bulbs in the main light fixture(already a very dark room which made it even more gloomy),
Extremely dirty windows - dont think the outside had been cleaned for months
Bathroom window surround paint peeling
Coffee machine dirty and leaking
Kettle base dirty
Overall a general feeling of uncleanliness throughout the room and bathroom
Then the following morning, we spoke to Martin, the host, as he was in the reception. From the outset, we were subjected to a torrent of abuse, all of which we have a video of, also sent to booking.com. He called us stupid, rude and told us to 'go bitch elsewhere'. He said he had only been the host of the property for two months and had inherited all the 'problems'. He did not attempt whatsoever to listen to our grievances or to rectify them.
We have never in our lives been spoken to like this and had no alternative but to leave there and then, as we felt very uncomfortable, almost to the point that we felt threatened by his totally unreasonable behaviour.
We had to find alternative accommodation at very short notice, at further expense to us.

Great location and really well designed rooms. Staff were really helpful when I accidently locked myself out of my room and the Thai restaurant downstairs was really good. Would stay there again when in the area. Espresso machine in the room was a nice touch.
Wasn't made clear that breakfast didn't start until 8am on the booking and I had to leave earlier than that for work, so I wasn't able to enjoy whatever breakfast was on offer (that I'd paid for and no offer of a refund on that part of the booking). Quite messy in the corridors, which was a shame given the rooms were very tidy and clean.
Very comfortable bed
Not so much about the property but I couldn’t find the 6 parking spaces they said they had, the off street parking was only until 18.00 and the entrance to the road the hotel is on which my Apple Maps was telling me to go up is no entry!
breakfast was nice the best part of the stay
the whole place needs a make over very shabby our room was next to a room of tumble dryers constantly drying

Great restaurant
Great location. Staff were amazing. The place was nice and clean. The wifi was also fast and reliable except the router I think got pulled or powered down around 8pm so I had to rely on my phone's hotspot (wasn't an issue for me but could be for others). No other issues with the place. Would stay again.
The mattress was the basic 'spring' affair but I suppose it is what it is.
Breakfast was in the pub opposite and very good
