The staff were friendly and polite.
I stayed 2 nights and my experience at the London Star Hotel was extremely disappointing, and I felt completely misled. On Booking.com, the hotel is listed as a 5-star property, but the reality is nowhere near what that rating suggests.
As soon as we arrived, it was obvious that the hotel seemed frozen in time. The reception is only open from 9:00 a.m. until midnight. After that, guests have to enter through the back door, which feels unprofessional and unsafe. To make matters worse, the elevator was out of service, which was very inconvenient.
The room was clearly old and poorly maintained. The furniture was outdated and in poor condition, including a chest of drawers with a missing handle. The minibar did not work, and there wasn’t even a luggage rack or chair to place our suitcases on. The carpet had holes in several places, and the curtains were visibly dirty.
The soundproofing was almost non-existent. The room door provided no noise insulation at all, and we could hear everything happening in the hallway, making it very difficult to rest.
The bathroom was extremely small, to the point where it was difficult for two people to be in it at the same time. On top of that, the bathroom bin was broken, and the sink didn’t even have a drain stopper, meaning that if you dropped anything small, it would go straight down the drain.
The most serious incident happened while we were in the room. Someone tried to enter without knocking. Fortunately, we had engaged the security latch, otherwise they would have walked straight in. This was completely unacceptable and raised serious concerns about guests’ privacy and safety.
The common areas were also in poor condition. The chairs in the reception/lounge had torn upholstery, which only reinforced the overall impression that the hotel is badly maintained.
Finally, the hotel entrance is located inside a shisha café/bar.
Staff where amazing this is the only positive thing.
Rooms in poor condition, its advertised as bar and restaurant facilities this is incorrect there is no where for breakfast so you are just paying for a bed.
The location was excellent for the price, and we could easily travel into Central London on the tube. Our room was very clean, and the air conditioning was very effective. Priyanka, our manager, was very helpful and polite. It was great to be able to leave our luggage both before and after checking-in and out.
The lift was out of order during our stay, but one of the managers was very helpful and cheerfully helped carry our bags up to the top floor.
Staff were very friendly and helpful. The quality and cleanliness of the room/facilities was great. The location was excellent - bus stops right outside and tube/train stations ~10min walk.
The lock on my room door didn't work when I arrived, which as a lone female was obviously unacceptable. Staff found me another room to stay in for the night, but only after I had pointed out that I wouldn't feel safe sleeping in the room without the lock. I was told the hotel was "pretty booked up" which caused undue anxiety as I thought I might have been left with no choice but to find somewhere else to stay at 10:30pm.
The lift was out of order for the duration of my stay, which was a major inconvenience given all the moving about that I had to do with my luggage due to room changes.
Thirdly, the fire alarm went off early on the second morning, and the out of hours contact number didn't pick up or return my call/message. Hotel guests were left standing outside the hotel for about 15-20 minutes with the alarm blaring, at which point we realised we would have to take matters into our own hands and call emergency services. We then had to wait another 15-20 minutes while firefighters checked the building. The whole time, there was a guest who appeared to either be severely mentally unwell, or on drugs. He was getting more and more aggravated by the minute, and I for one felt unsafe. I later learned that the fire alarm was set off by a fellow guest smoking in his room and then dismantling the smoke alarm. I know this kind of incident can't be helped, but I was shocked and disappointed by the lack of communication from the hotel, both at the time and in the meantime. I rang the hotel's out of hours number several times and left a message, but heard nothing back. Aside from a brief apology from the member of staff who was on shift when I was checking out, there has been no acknowledgement whatsoever for the inconvenience of being rudely awoken at 7:45am, forced to stand in the street in our pyjamas for half an hour, and then essentially having to fend for ourselves in an evacuation.
Staff pleasent, room clean and as expected.
Transport to wembley stadium was good, one bus. Return journey a little tricky due to road closures.
I would stay here again.
The room was very hot due to a heat wave. No fan in the room, however they did provide one whwn requested. Ideally the window should have been left open for comfort.
Location and cleanliness
Fire alarm was activated at 7.50 am but the hotel reception was locked and there was no staff
Not a thing.
The location, the place wasn’t very clean, felt very uncomfortable walking into the hotel at night, felt very intimidated and genuinely scared staying there for the night, if we had somewhere else to go we would have left and actually got an earlier flight home in the morning.
There was a working fridge, with nice windows
A lot. First of all, the room was not as described. It was much smaller than expected and looked very different from the pictures. There were multiple burn marks in the carpet, and the shower head was stuck and difficult to use. On top of that, there was a shisha lounge directly below the window, which caused a lot of noise and unpleasant smells to enter the room. Overall, we were very disappointed with our stay and did not enjoy it at all.
It was very cheap. The location suited us as we were at a concert at Wembley Stadium, it wasn’t too far from tube stations. Hairdryer and toiletries were provided.
It looked nothing like the photos. Definitely not 5 star. Interior is incredibly dated and tired. The furniture inside the rooms were threadbare. There was no air conditioning or fans - bearing in mind the temperature was 30°C. It made the room almost unbearable. In the evenings the bottom floor seemed to turn into a Shisha lounge so it was very noisy from the first floor where our room was. We needed the window open for some sort of ventilation which resulted in interrupted sleep from the noise of customers downstairs. It was quite a noisy area. Staff weren’t particularly welcoming either. A very disappointed stay and the photos are incredibly misleading. I would not stay here again.
Prima hotel, ligt gelegen tussen 2 goede metro verbindingen.
Wij waren er in het weekend, hoorde veel gepraat/ muziek van de Amisa lounge ernaast in de nacht.
Very well connected to the rest of the city via bus, overground and underground. There is a Shisha restaurant on the ground floor but the was no laid noise(our room had windows on the other side)
No AC in the rooms, we were also unable to open the windows so the temperature in the room reached 30C (!!). AC only in the reception
De airco
Het is een oud pand, wel schoon, maar de ventilatie houd te wensen over. Hierdoor lijkt alles klam aan te voelen. Lijkt me niet gezond.
Was right next to a Morrisons with parking
Very far from everything else
