Nothing
Very poor service. The room looked completely different from what was advertised on the booking website and was not the room I expected. The hotel did not provide what was promised, which was very disappointing. I would not recommend staying here based on my experience.
My stay at Baur au Lac was genuinely wonderful, and it's one of those hotels that manages to make luxury feel effortless rather than performative. One of the highlights of the trip was swimming in the lake just a few minutes from the hotel. Coming back afterwards to such a peaceful setting felt like the perfect combination of being in the city while still having a sense of escape.
What impressed me most was the service. The team struck that rare balance of being attentive without ever feeling intrusive. They seemed to anticipate what guests needed before anyone had to ask, yet every interaction felt warm, natural, and completely genuine. From check-in to the smallest requests, there was a quiet confidence and kindness that made the entire stay feel incredibly comfortable.
The food was excellent throughout the visit, but breakfast deserves a special mention. Sitting on the terrace overlooking the beautiful gardens each morning was one of my favourite parts of the day. The setting was calm, the dishes were beautifully prepared, and there was no sense of rush.
A truly memorable stay and I hope to return soon. Thank you so much to the whole team.
Vwey bad
Very bad & weak
Going here soon? How is air con in August?
This hotel truly sell itself, a review is just an added bonus I suppose. It exemplifies true luxury in every aspect. I have been wanting to stay here for quite some time and I got lucky that the rate happens to fall in my favor when making my booking. Would stay here again in a heartbeat.
Everything. Great to be back.
Teile des Frühstücks waren in einem kleinen Einweckglas
I have just concluded a four-night stay at Baur au Lac, and I want to share both what was extraordinary and one practical concern for future guests.
The service across every department was, without exaggeration, impeccable. From the moment I arrived, I was struck by the consistency of excellence across every staff member I encountered. The doormen, the reception team, the housekeepers, the valets, and the concierges were each the epitome of professionalism, entirely dedicated to their craft. This kind of consistency is rare in this world, and rarer still among five-star hotels. Even among the great luxury properties, the Baur au Lac holds its own particular standard.
One small detail that surprised me: the hotel does not use the modern keycard system. Guests receive an actual physical key that must be returned to the front desk each time you leave the hotel. When you return, the reception staff greet you by name and hand you your key without asking your room number. Every single time. Across all four nights, without exception. It is both slightly uncanny and genuinely impressive that so many guests, names, and room numbers are held in the memory of the front desk team. The concierges likewise remembered my name and room number from the very first day. It is the kind of quiet attentiveness that defines truly great hospitality.
The suite itself was lovely, beautifully appointed, and remarkably quiet. Across four nights I never once knew I had a neighbor. The hotel has been operating so long that it has thought of absolutely everything a guest could need. The room and amenities reflect over 175 years of refinement, and it shows in every detail.
My one honest concern: I would offer a word of caution regarding the hotel's private car service for full-day excursions. The transportation to and from the airport was excellent and worked seamlessly. However, when I arranged a one-day excursion, the quoted rate was 650 CHF to my destination plus 150 CHF per waiting hour. The way these charges would compound was not made clear in the email correspondence I received in advance. My eight-hour outing ended up costing in excess of 1,500 CHF, a figure I found difficult to justify on any continent. When I raised this, the concierge team explained that this is simply the pricing convention in Switzerland. I would note that during my prior stay at another famous Geneva hotel, I was not charged in this manner. My honest recommendation to future guests is to use the Baur au Lac's transport service for airport transfers, where the value is clear and the service is exceptional, but to arrange a private driver independently for full-day excursions.
Setting that one concern aside, the concierges are truly superb. The rooms are graceful, the service is unmatched, and I will only stay at the Baur au Lac when I return to Zurich.
A final word to the ownership: please do not sell this hotel to the chain brands. What Baur au Lac offers cannot be manufactured by any hospitality group. It is the product of generations of independent ownership and a culture of care that no acquisition can replicate. The world is losing places like this too quickly. Please, keep it as it is.
We stayed at the Baur Au Lac 14 years ago and loved it then and things have only gotten better. The attention to detail, the decor, and immaculate condition of the property is breathtaking. Our room was full of mirrors and gold and reflected a true sense of quality and luxury. The reception area and main lounge is graceful and elegant and a nice place for drinks or dinner.
The star of the show is the restaurant, Marguita, which is beautifully adorned with bright colors and high-end details from floor to ceiling.
The hotel is in very good hands and you can tell the owners are determined to present the most beautiful and welcoming environment for their guests.
The location is also great for shopping and walking near the lake.
We loved our stay.
My family and I traveled to Zurich for the first time this June 2026. We had the best experience at the Baur Au Lac. The staff were extremely attentive and friendly. The food was delicious as well. The breakfast dining area was stunning. I commented multiple times how I felt like a princess throughout my stay. Would definitely recommend to others!
