De locatie van het hotel was top.Veel eetgelegenheden rond het hotel. Nadat de airco op de kamer ermee ophield werden we direct geupgrade naar een suite met een super uitzicht. Super vriendelijk personeel. Het ontbijt was prima.

La chambre était très confortable et très bien équipée.

The rooms were clean and well-maintained. Breakfast was enjoyable, with a good variety that changed daily and caters more to Asian tastes. The continental selection could be improved slightly. The location, however, is exceptional and very convenient.
We stayed in the family suite. The coffee machine wasn’t working, and although there were many cabinets, they were all empty—no plates or utensils were provided. Basic items like trash bags should at least be included. Overall, the functionality of the shared spaces in the family suite feels unclear.

Yes, and odd way to begin but stay with me.
First things first.
My wife and I stayed here 07 April for four nights bed and breakfast. We were in room 501.
Back to the odd opening. We last stayed here in 2022 and indeed I did a fulsome and glowing review at that time; my review is dated 21 July 2022; link below:

I re read this before writing this latest review on Swiss-belboutique Yogyarkarta.
I want to reuse a particular paragraph from that 2022 review (including my spelling and grammatical errors) ;
‘..Reception, front of house - 10 out of 10; Mr Ekko, front services / front of house manager keeps this in perfect balance. If the occasion presents itself do (if his and your time permits) speak with Mr Ekko – my experience of chatting with Mr Ekko left me in know doubt: Mr Ekko is both very astute and very kind; extremely approachable and consistently efficient in his maintaining high standards both at front of house and I believe the dining area is also his responsibility…’
So: All reviews I do take time and in my case lots of observations of the hotel and staff during any stay we have. I don’t write bad reviews – too complex re evidence and factual detail and mostly I don’t do them because I do a lot of research before booking. The reviews I do write generally are very good – accurate – and true reflections of our experiences.
Since 2022 many things have changed but I was half hoping to find this hotel pretty much as I left it in 2022.
So, you say: ‘get to the point, please!’
Our stay this time was NOT bad, nor was there any truly abysmal failures by any staff nor do I have any pointed criticisms to be listed (well maybe one: THAT CONSTANT SELF PRAISING video in the lifts and in the roof top bar about the global success of this hotel group: management; PLEASE remove it immediately from all lifts and the roof top bar; it is doing the exact opposite to what you think it is doing!).
No, the issue is there is no longer and sense of the ‘togetherness’ I wrote of in 2022.
I am sorry but this matters to me and I suspect others.
Everyone there at this hotel are going through ‘the motions’ of Indonesian hospitality which, from our Indonesian travels and friends now in this region we have established such hosts are unique for their love, their welcome and connectivity. This cannot be delivered half heartedly.
It is painful to say this but this hotel has lost, somewhere along the way, since 2022, something very important – something I am very sensitive to – it has lost essence of being which was so very, very evident in 2022.
Back to ‘Where is Mr Eko??; You can see from my 2022 review the centrality, in my then stay, of Mr Eko and I suspect his loss has actually affected where this hotel now finds itself: fragmented.
Senior management: ask yourself, please, how this reviewer can go from such a glowing review in 2022 to this review today which in real terms is flat and disappointing and really has nothing truly to showcase.
I did – being the kind of traveller, reviewer I am – track down Mr Eko at his current hotel (I won’t) name it since this review is not about that hotel, however, Mr Eko REMEMBERED me from 2022 and we had a lovely chat!
In conclusion. This hotel was effective and efficient but due to my previous stay and knowledge of it, this second stay will be my last I am afraid; it has somehow lost what was once a truly winning, warming, welcoming and absorbing identity.
Maybe poach back Mr Eko!? 😊
