What I liked about the hotel
I had a very pleasant 6-night stay at De Rembrandt Hotel, and there were several things that stood out.
Location: The location is one of the hotel's biggest strengths. It is situated right in the heart of Ikeja, next to Ikeja City Mall and just a few minutes' drive from Allen Avenue, where you'll find numerous restaurants, cafés, banks, supermarkets, and other essential services. The central location made it very easy to get around Lagos and access different parts of the city.
Room: I stayed in the Junior Suite, and I was impressed by how spacious it was. The room had a comfortable work desk and chair, which was great for getting some work done, as well as a small sitting area with two armchairs and a table. There was also a large wardrobe with plenty of storage space, and the bathroom was equally spacious. The bed was very comfortable, making it easy to relax after a busy day.
Breakfast: The breakfast exceeded my expectations. The food was delicious, and it's clear the chef knows how to prepare tasty meals. My first breakfast was served à la carte, while the remaining days featured a buffet. Although some dishes were repeated throughout my stay, a good number of the buffet items were rotated daily, which kept the breakfast interesting. Overall, there was a good variety of both local Nigerian and continental options, and I looked forward to breakfast every morning.
What I didn't like
While the hotel has many positive qualities, there are several areas that require significant improvement, particularly regarding staff professionalism and the condition of the facilities.
Restaurant and Bar Staff Professionalism: This was the biggest disappointment of my stay. For a hotel in this price range, I expected a much higher standard of professionalism and customer service. On my first morning (Sunday), while guests were having breakfast, the restaurant staff were holding a church service in a room directly beside the dining area. With the doors open, the singing, clapping, and drumming could be clearly heard throughout breakfast. While I respect everyone's faith, this should have been conducted before breakfast service began or in a private area where it would not disturb paying guests.
Another incident that surprised me was seeing members of staff repeatedly helping themselves to breakfast items from the buffet while guests were still eating. I watched several employees take most of the remaining sausages and meat pies before many guests had the opportunity to serve themselves. This gave the impression that guests were not being prioritised.
The staff were also consistently loud while working. Conversations between employees often sounded as though they were socialising at home rather than working in a hospitality environment. A calmer and more professional atmosphere would greatly improve the guest experience. I believe the restaurant and bar staff would benefit from additional customer service and hospitality training.
One morning, a staff member was playing a religious prayer programme on his phone using the loudspeaker in the middle of the reception area. It created an atmosphere that felt inappropriate for a hotel lobby, where guests expect a quiet and welcoming environment.
Another concerning incident occurred on Thursday night after 10:00 p.m.

Nice spacious rooms, friendly front desk and cleaning staff, strong internet, good location next to Ikeja mall and a number of restaurants.
Restaurant staff were a bit rude, breakfast for only one person for double accupancy, too much strictness on food ratio
