The location cant' be beat. Close walking distance to Takashimaya, Daimaru, Don Quijote, Teramachi & Nishiki Market, Gion, shopping, restaurants & multiple train station/lines. The staff were very helpful on check in and check out, and were readily available whenever we called using the reception phone.
Room 301 was very spacious with a fantastic view and private deck overlooking the Kamo River. The large bathroom with 2 sinks was convenient, not to mention a 2nd powder room near the entry. There was a large walk in closet to place our 2 (open) suitcases and kept it out of the way. Couldn't have done this trip without the in-room washer/dryer (laundry soap provided), just beware, 1 load will take you about 3 to 4 hours. The tatami room/tea room was a nice touch along with the Bose speaker playing jazz upon arrival. The bedroom was nice and quiet allowing for restful sleep in the comfy pajamas provided.
Room 401 was a large studio overlooking the small street below, which really isn't terribly noisy (if you're sensitive to every little sound, earplugs work). This room had 2 twin beds, in-room washer/dryer, micro, refrigerator, etc. It does not have the "wow" features of 301, but it was a nicely appointed and comfortable room.
We had an enjoyable stay at Aoi and would definitely stay in either of these rooms again.
Room 301 - This is a very small thing, it would be great if there was an additional place to hang bath towels. The only place available in the main bathroom was the horizontal handle on the shower door that fit one towel.
Room 401 - Blackout curtains would be nice.
We loved everything- the location was perfect, the staff went way and beyond and the rooms were beautiful!
Nothing
The hotel has a great location, with trendy restaurants and coffee shops right outside the door, and convenient shopping as well. The hotel is elegantly and comfortably decorated, with plenty of space and a view facing the Kamogawa River.
My mom and I booked a twin room, but the single beds are a bit small — I feel like I might fall off when I turn over.
Location was great,
Rooms were of good size.with nice views over a cherry blossoming canal.
Small kitchenette handy as was in room washer-dryer combo.
Little to no staff presence at front desk, , so help with restaurant reservations and tourist planning non existent except for a tablet in the room to which to contact the staff from.
Room starting to show signs of fraying and age with tape on counter top edge.
Rooms used to have Bose CD players with CD selection: no longer.
Excellent service, beautiful room. The soaking tub was great. The washer/dryer was super convenient. And complementary champagne, thank you!
On this trip I did not have time for breakfast in my room, so did not use the kitchen but... I love toasting up Japanese bread. A toaster in the room would be great (for a future visit). Thanks!
Location and very big room with a washing machine
Bed is too hard
I don't think breakfast was an option
I honestly don't have anything that I didn't like

Have stayed here many times
Super Appartement mit toller Lage. Sehr nettes Welcome.
This small boutique hotel is absolutely stunning. The attention to detail in the rooms is exceptional. The staff have good English and go over and beyond to make your experience 10/10. The location is also excellent, only a short walk to Gion.
the room layout seems not updated on the web. The real room is modern, cozy and well equipped withOUT kitchen - we thought the apartment is equipped with the cooking facility, but it doesn't. However, everything is perfect - the location, the facility in the room. Room has 70 sqm with balcony river view.
We thought there is real kitchen equipped - for us to cook breakfast etc. There is misunderstanding on 'kitchen' facility. But it doesn't matter in the end.
The room is spacious, staff are very nice and just a call away. Location is perfection with river view and walking distance to almost everywhere
