Nothing
PART 1:
If you have nothing positive to say, don't hold back, darling. So here we are.
Welcome to the hotel that time forgot. Not in a charming, vintage, "ooh, look at the character" sort of way. More in a "has anyone checked on this place since the Coronation?" sort of way.
From the moment I arrived at 10pm, I felt as though I'd accidentally wandered onto the set of National Lampoon's European Vacation. You know the scene at the start where the Griswolds arrive at that gloriously grim London hotel and immediately begin questioning every decision that led them there? Well, this felt less like a homage and more like the actual building they used—forty years later, with fewer staff and even less enthusiasm.
You ring the bell. Nothing.
You ring again. Nothing.
You call the hotel number. Nothing.
Ten minutes later, after repeated attempts and several increasingly creative uses of the phrase "WTF?", I was finally rescued by two delightfully merry ladies returning from a night out who happened to let themselves in.
Hot on their heels came a group of lads clearly embarking upon a heroic evening on the piss. Then everyone vanished, leaving me entirely alone in a gloomy entrance hall, clutching my suitcase and questioning every life choice that had brought me there.
Still calling the hotel number, I suddenly realised the ringing was coming from the basement.
Naturally.
Down I ventured, where I discovered a door marked "Reception - CLOSED."
Reader, I opened it.
What awaited me was not a reception area. It was a squat with aspirations.
A single bed. An eating table. A check-in desk. All sharing one room in a setup that suggested the receptionist also lived, slept, dined, and possibly contemplated the collapse of Western civilisation there.
Bloody hell.
Eventually someone answered the phone and informed me that the attendant was hanging out in the corner shop down the street.
The corner shop.
Not reception.
PART 2:
At this point, there was absolutely no chance I was leaving the building unattended, so I kept one eye on the hotel and one on the corner shop until the elusive attendant finally appeared in a wife-beater.
There was no paperwork, no ID check, no formal check-in. I was simply handed a key and sent to what appeared to be the last available room on the top floor. No lift, of course.
The huge metal ashtray bolted to the stairwell wall was a lovely reminder of a bygone era. The bedding looked as though it had survived several decades and at least a few governments. Thankfully, I travel with my own pillow, linen, towel and slippers, because even with my own supplies I still felt slightly minging.
The communal bathrooms look sparkling online. In reality, they are tired, shabby and nowhere near as advertised.
Throughout my two nights, I felt as though I was living inside the opening scenes of National Lampoon's European Vacation. The whole place feels like someone watched that film in 1985, saw the dreadful London hotel where the Griswolds stayed, and thought, "Sweetie darling, that's not a warning, THAT'S A BUSINESS MODEL."
The location was convenient. That concludes the positive section of this review.
For the price charged, I could book a beaming four-star hotel with a swimming pool in SHANGHAI. Only book here if you enjoy wondering whether you'll be able to get back into the building and don't mind saying "WTF?" every other thought.
Sweetie darling, this isn't accommodation.
It's an experience.
Nothing was good
Everything
The receptionist really nice
Location and staff
Location
No fan during summer heat, very overpriced (at least when we booked it).
Расположение отличное. Приветливый и отзывчивый персонал, всегда поможет. Сам отель чистый и уютный
Location
Outdated, needs money spent on it
Nothing
Smoking in the Lobby, bathroom and everywhere
Dirty rooms and curtains.
De plek was niet schoon en er zaten veel insecten. Ik had een kamer met twee aparte bedden geboekt, maar bij aankomst kreeg ik een heel klein tweepersoonsbed. Het was een vreselijke ervaring.
Very polite staff warm and welcoming nice hotel near train stations
There was free wifi, and the bathroom was decently clean. The location was quite convenient, if a little loud. There is not much more that I can say that I liked.
Most everything else. We waited 10 minutes at the door to be let in, and the manager answered the door shirtless. The whole place was run down and filthy. The radiator was stuck on making the room uncomfortably warm, which was aggravated by the noisy street below making an open window uncomfortable in a different way. The furniture and floors were dusty, and rubbish (including what looked like drug paraphernalia) was lying about when we checked in. I would not stay here again for free if given the choice.
The location
Very bad experience. The accommodation was dirty. The bed could not have been more uncomfortable — you are only paying for the location. There are huge cracks in the walls, and you can hear absolutely everything around you. I recommend that you do not visit this place. I asked for a refund after seeing the conditions, and they rejected my request. Very bad.
The location
There was no verification upon check-in. I wasn’t asked for ID and was just handed a key to a communal room. Granted it was for my exclusive use but this wasn’t made clear
Location was the only positive.. near to Euston Station and Phoenix Theatre for the show we were seeing
Everything. By far the worst hotel we have ever stayed in and ive stayed in hostels during my travelling days. Believe all the bad reviews. We only stayed one night for a show, but were very glad to leave in the morning. We barely slept as the bed was so uncomfortable and you can hear everything in the other rooms. It is a very dirty place. The hotel needs a health and safety check, i'm sure it's in breach of so many rules. I would say you get what you pay for, but I wouldn't say it was cheap.
An okay hotel, nice staff, small room with bathroom in hallway shared
