Great with the basics
Pros:

The staff were lovely and the rooms were clean, quiet and very comfortable. For me, that makes a great stay.

Cons:

I would have liked a bathroom shaving outlet and an outlet by the bed. Additionally, having an outlet near the window would have allowed us to put the fan near the window instead of across the room where it was the least beneficial.

I wouldn't stay here again if you paid me.
Pros:

The Location - it was close to the University which was our main objective.

Cons:

1 - Check-in - Staff uninterested and preoccupied with their phones
2 - We requested an early breakfast package,, that we arranged when we checked in, to be picked up from reception, the next morning as my eldest daughter had to leave at 0730. This wasn't available as agreed. So my youngest Daughter had to search around the hotel for someone to help her make up the breakfast bag.
3 - Although our rooms were close together, in the same corridor - Room 57 was a disgrace. The bed took up 90% of the available floor space, our wardrobe was a couple of hooks with some hangers, the bathroom was so small I was unable to use it I'm 6ft and 15st - Not a massive man (luckily my Daughters had a room along the corridor), and the curtain wouldn't close properly so the street light shone in from the yard we overlooked, combined with the location next to the stair well and a service door, I'd say my wife and I managed 2 hours sleep.
4 - Breakfast was another disaster, although we arrived in plenty of time we were told that given we had to leave in 30mins to make our appointment, there would not be enough time to cook us a breakfast (there were only 6 guests including our 3 in the breakfast room) but we could have some bacon to make a sandwich, this took an age to produce and was burnt beyond recognition when it eventually arrived)

Great location and lovely staff but awful room
Pros:

Nice bathroom

Cons:

Terrible room - very small - tiny window that had opaque film on the glass so could not see out - felt like a prison cell. Someone had scratched off part of the film do there was a gap to see outside but it looked scruffy. Very old carpet and generally looking like it needed a refit. Bathroom sink a bit blocked. Room 55.

Welcome in Sheffield
Pros:

Excellent location for visiting university. Welcome.

Cons:

A bit run down. Old fashioned room facilities. Old wooden windows needing maintenance (sashes broken). Layout and bit of a maze.

Super staff. Strongly recommended.
Pros:

Sensitive to the wishes of dog owners and having a genuine care. Breakfast was very well put together and no grease to found, just a proper full English without the fat. The pastries were also very tasty if on a continental option.

Cons:

I paid extra through booking.com for a bigger room but ended up in a small room. I raised it with the staff who were happy to move me to another larger space, but as I had already unpacked and in a huge hurry to get to a graduation ceremony, I let it pass. The problem was with booking.com rather than the hotel as their records did not show that I had paid extra.

Nice clean hotel with friendly staff. We will stay again.
Pros:

The hotel was clean and easily located with parking although this seemed to get busy quickly. The staff were helpful and accommodating. The room was modern and had what you’d expect.

Cons:

We were unfortunate to stay there when the temperatures were high so the rooms were hot. Our room did not have a fan although I probably could have asked for one. Persons with restricted mobility may struggle as there are stairs and no lift. Although they arranged our breakfast in a function room near reception which was ideal as a member of our group could not go down the stairs to the breakfast room.

A nice friendly hotel, close to the University facilities so excellent for visiting student children
Pros:

The staff were very helpful and friendly at reception. A good bathroom, big shower, decent bed.

Cons:

The front of the building is a little tired, the interior less so. We were above the entrance, first floor. Windows open at night as it was so hot and there was quite a lot of gathering and chatting outside from the early hours.

3 star facilities but paid 4 star price
Pros:

The location is good as it is just out of the centre, short 15/20 minute walk or quick taxi.
The towels were clean and fluffy and the bedding was white and crisp.
Staff were polite and friendly.

Cons:

The property has deteriorated since last staying 10 years ago.
It's tired, needs upgrading and new decor.
The receptionist said we were given an upgrade. We walked into a room with an old sofa bed and 2 singles. Which having booked a double, didn't exactly feel like an upgrade. Whilst spacious, we moved the beds together and discerned a patch of carpet was threadbare where the little side table was originally.
The toilet cistern was constantly running, so the door had to be shut, the curtains don't quite fit the window, so the sun shines through at you through the gap.
The cooked breakfast was also a bit anaemic.
Creaking floors, over painted surfaces and then external wood frames are rotting. It is just a bit tired and underwhelming.
If we had paid a 3 star price it wouldn't have been an issue, but due to our visit falling on a 'busy weekend' we paid quite a bit, for basic.
Hopefully the company running the hotel have got plans to give the place a full refurb, which it so desperately needs.
