Location is excellent with nice surroundings which gives it a bit of a park feeling. It's an old building with a lot of ambiance. Overall a nice place to stay.
Room 102 had no curtains but only blinds which did not block any sunlight early in the morning nor the night light next to our window. The room was also superhot during the heatwave. They only provided a small table fan which was clearly not sufficient to cool down the room. Dirty, worn out carpets in the corridors towards the rooms. Could do with a little upgrade.
The king bed was comfortable and good pillows
The grounds are lovely
The building has some nice visual features
We arrived at midnight. Fan in the room but window was not open so just circulating 35 degrees. I understand it has been extremely hot so buildings take time to cool down but the evening had been 20 degrees with a breeze. Unbearable all night!
Complimentary tea, coffee, biscuits were shoved in a box, scrunched up and lots of crumbs left inside.
Over head shower lacked power and was covered in limescale so I wonder how often it is cleaned.
For a 4 star hotel the room was so basic with no visual appeal. Room door had two steps in front of it and then a very stiff to open so a strong push was needed. Lucky I am tall so could push from the floor before the steps otherwise I would have struggled.
Breakfast was passable. Used plates left on tables and outside tables not laid.
Generally looking a bit rundown.
Locatie
200 euro per night and NO shower. Only sitting in bath
The building and the location were very special
The food in the restaurant was mediocre and the choice very limited. There was a birthday party going on at the same time and the staff were quite distracted and we felt rushed. Portions small and bread rolls apparently at a premium. Disappointing.
Beautiful grounds and comfortable well presented room.
Price of a pint.
the location
The room had two windows but one that didn't open, it was painted shut because the bins were kept below, it was very hot and I required a room where we could open the windows, there was no fan. I was offered another room but was expected to pay an extra £20. We were then moved to another room which had a carpet moth, in the bathroom there were two blown light bulbs. Reception staff then found another room at the same grade as we had book but then disappeared to get me a key rather than taking me and my luggage to the other room, I eventually after a considerable wait went to find them only to find that it appeared that I had been forgotten.
From the write up we were expecting a four star hotel, which it is from the outside but the level of staffing definitely wasn't. breakfast was all self service, the coffee machine kept running out of water so consequently there was a queue, there was only one machine, fruit juice ran out and we had to ask for it to be replenished. The scrambled egg was over cooked and tasteless. We then noticed people getting boiled, fried or poached eggs, these were not offered to us. We were a group of nine and wanted to sit outside on the terrace on a big table which wasn't set for breakfast, nobody came to ask if we required anything,, there were far too few staff on duty. The bread was from a cut white loaf, or croissants or Danish pastries. Fruit was a bowl of melon, grapes and the odd piece of pineapple, which also ran out. The dining room was fine but no staff present, we sat outside because it was a lovely morning and I had to ask for napkins only to be told that they were on the tables in the dining room, I didn't want to take them from set tables.
The window dressings in the bedrooms were venetian blinds which did not keep the sun out, consequently we were woken at dawn.
The hotel was superb, location great, facilities great, staff great. My only critique would be the breakfast, this fell well short of my expectations, the choice was poor and the quality of the hotel breakfast was very disappointing. People were wondering about with food on plates and then having to go to a separate room for drinks, the coffee machine failed twice whilst I was there. We were not even offered the alternative menu- avocado, poached eggs etc so we had to be content with grey scrabbled eggs and Bain Marie limp bacon. Very poor.
very relaxing location and beautiful rooms.
not a dislike but it would have been good to have food available later than 20.30
Really nicely located property. Room I had was unbearably hot with no air conditioning but the staff brought a fan to the room albeit after we had already left the room to go out for the evening so was not very helpful.
Staff seemingly helpful, except for one. Quite late on, a young lady guest on her own at the bar, asked if there was a snack she could get. Her request was denied by the lady behind the bar. Another member of staff kindly chose to help her and brought her what looked like some bread with cheese. I witnessed the female staff member at the bar literally prevent the young lady guest from eating it by snatching it away as she raised it to her mouth. She then berated the staff member who had brought her the cheese sandwich. This was a shocking act and could very easily be considered assault. The female guest was visibly upset by this. I felt the female member of staff revealed an air of unwarranted contempt for the guest.
Lovely tranquil place, nice rooms & lovely gardens, good to have air con, tea coffee & shampoo etc. liked the bath/massage oil. All the staff were fantastic, so friendly & helpful.
some bits in need of a little attention. Hadn’t expected to be in separate part of hotel ie outside door (so might not have liked that if on my own). No minibar.
The grounds were beautiful
On arrival our room was of a poor standard. Carpets were worn and marked. The bathroom door had many marks around the door handle. There was a broken blind slat on the floor. It was very stuffy. We approached reception and were told no other rooms were availableband that we would have to upgrade and we paid an extra £250. Having paid the extra to an upgraded room we found that the carpet was marked and the bath had an attachment to the taps which meant if you turned taps on water shot out. Also the toilet was next to the window with a very thin Roman blind. When we went to breakfast there was no menu!! It's in a separate room and the food was very sparse with items that you would expect missing. We had to ask for fruit and fried eggs. Staff did not appear to be happy with our requests. In the dining room wallpaper was peeling off the panels. We were disappointed with this hotel as it presents itself as a beautiful stay. It does not deserve it's four star rating. We will not be staying again.
The grounds
The rooms was not clean, dogs are allowed in the bar, breakfast buffet is really poor.
Barnett hill, is in a beautiful location in the Surrey hills. Having been taken over in recent years, it boasts itself as a four star spa hotel. There is absolutely nothing four star about this hotel, it’s three star at best. We booked direct with the hotel in a king room. On arrival we had to wait 15 minutes for reception to attend. The receptionist was friendly enough and told us we had been allocated to room 20, which he thought was on the first floor, we were only staying for one night so not being asked if we needed help with our luggage didn’t bother us, however the thought of trying to find our room did, we were lucky it was on the first floor, he got lucky.
We entered our room which resembled an odd shaped bathroom and small bedroom, noticeable immediately was the opaque plastic applied to the lower windows at every window. I showered only to be stood in the water from the shower that wouldn’t drain, my husband followed having to stand in my water. Furniture was mismatched and the carpet was covered in yellow stains, dust evident everywhere. I decided to open the window to see views of a roof with e cigarettes, cans and debri, we also had a lovely view of the bins and laundry. The room was £200 room only. At this point I went down to reception and asked to be moved, we were given a room with a view. Checkout was as uninteresting as check in, no one around, so we just walked out. That night we bumped into someone else staying in the hotel, who had booked via wowcher in a king room, with prices so and breakfast for £149 and they were upgraded to a super king. I emailed the manager and asked him to contact me so I could talk through our frustration at being loyal and booking direct only to get a sub standard room, I got an email saying someone would contact me in 24 hours, no one did. So 2 days later I called to speak with him, he was busy but I was informed he would call me back within the hour. 5 days later, no call.
So if you do book direct especially for a quality room, I would call ahead and make sure you get a view and a clean room. Or book Wowcher and get a much better deal.
It’s is definitely not a four star hotel and neither does the manager operate in that way.
Zsolt if you read this, please don’t try and explain yourself on this site, do the right thing and reply to my email or call me on the number I left.
Beautiful building in a great location
Rooms were tired, small, unclean. staff were indifferent. In Room 108 the mattress was too big for the base which resulted in me landing on the floor when I sat on the edge of the bed,
Tranquil, wonderful setting, superb bedroom and friendly staff.
Remote location means expensive taxi journeys to go anywhere.
