Lovely evening meal
Great breakfast too.
Nothing was any trouble. Large room.
Remoteness
Quirky
Very nice Scottish breakfast
Comfortable beds
Nice staff
Food was good quality.
Place lacked atmosphere. No background music so could here everyone's conversations. No dogs in main bar area but was OK for a local owner to bring dog in.
Staff lovely, especially the lady who checked us in and served us drinks and food that night. Good value, lovely location with walks all around. Food in the bar was nice homely food.
It's a bit run down and grubby in places. Breakfast all cheap produce with not even a pot of fresh tea or coffee. Wallpaper peeling in room.
Everything about it, old lovely old building
Not much
Very little!
Shabby.
Light in room at night - too bright.
the owners where lovely, staff were amazing . Got chatting with some of the friendly locals in there nice outside area after our dinner, it was close to the road but it isnt a busy road so it was perfect with nice views. Would recommend the short rib, the portion was brilliant.
Nothing
Very friendly staff and lovely quiet location.
Breakfast was excellent plenty of choice and well cooked. The location was very interesting , we had never been to this part of Scotland before.
Not having to walk up so many stairs, but help was offered and given This as not a 5 but star hotel but this was offset by the welcome from the staff which was excellent and the quirky character and the History of the hotel and there village.
My wife and I, together with our son and his girlfriend, stayed here for 2 nights over the weekend. The owners and staff were friendly and welcoming. Our rooms were clean and comfortable. The dinner menu has a good range of options to choose from and our meals were excellent. The breakfast buffet (including cooked and continental options) was amazing. The historic hotel is located in the quiet village of Leadhills. Both Leadhills and the neighbouring village, Wanlockhead, have a fascinating history of lead mining and the Lead Mining Museum at Wanlockhead is well worth visiting. Both villages are high in the Lowther Hills surrounded by lovely countryside for walking. Recommended.
We were greeted with a warm welcome and a safe place to store our motorcycles. We had a fantastic Sunday roast and were made welcome by the locals and all the staff.
Nothing.

Location. Property. Staff.
A little run down.
A nice and atmospheric hotel, exactly what you would expect from an Arms Hotel: small-scale, but with friendly and hard-working staff. The food was excellent. The hotel pub is also a great place to relax and enjoy a pleasant evening.
De ledspots in de kamer waren vrij fel, wat als minder prettig werd ervaren.
The LED spotlights in the room were quite bright, which made them less comfortable.
We didn't arrive at the Hopetoun Arms under the best circumstances – our campervan had broken down and Andrew and I were tired, stressed and wondering what to do next.
From the moment Rachel, Rabbie and Leah stepped in to help, we were treated with such kindness and generosity. They picked us up, offered to drive us back to the service station and genuinely cared about making a difficult situation easier for us.
What was supposed to be an emergency overnight stop became one of the most memorable parts of our trip. The hotel is full of character, the views are spectacular, our room was comfortable and welcoming, and the breakfast was absolutely delicious.
To add to the adventure, the van broke down again the following day, despite supposedly being fixed! Looking back, what could have been a miserable experience was made so much better because of the warmth and hospitality we received here.
Thank you, Rachel, Rabbie and Leah, for going above and beyond. We hope to return one day under much less stressful circumstances and actually enjoy the area properly.

Generous space in bedroom and restaurant. Furniture a bit dated. Good dinner. Very helpful staff.
Good location, not far from the motorway. Bed was comfortable and room quiet even though it overlooked the main road through town. Nice breakfast and staff pleasant and professional. Stayed with my dog and a few treats and things left for him which was a nice touch and a sausage was specially cooked for gim at breakfast.
Room was in the roof space so only window was a skylight. Therefore lacking in any view and natural light. Bedside tables were set against the sloping roof which resulted in my banging my head a couple of times on the wall when I tried to access things on the table. There seemed to be no interior access to the bar; instead we had to go outside and enter through a door down the side of the building.
