The faded grandeur of The Grand Hotel will hopefully reach new heights under new ownership. It's in the best location in Lerwick and has a very long history. But the bonus for staying here is the fabulous staff, young and old.
Entrance from car park was creepy for a single person.
Bra läge mitt i Lerwick! Fantastisk frukost.
Varmvattensystemet uppfyller alla fördomar om Storbritannien.
The Grand Hotel's new owners are making a massive effort to bring the old girl into the modern era as her grandeur is a wee bit faded. The rooms are comfortable though and the staff wonderful.
Entering from the carpark means meandering through a few bleach-smelling storage areas until you find the bar to check in. It's a bit gothically creepy balanced out by the sunny warmth of the breakfast room.
Brilliant location, pleasant helpful staff, views of the harbour.
In a poor state of repair, aged and soiled carpets, defective shower only delivered cold water, broken glass in skylights (dangerous!), peeling wallpaper and blown damp plaster.
A house dating back to the Victorian epoch, with stuck, high ceilings, heavy curtains, carpets, luxurious ambiance. Perfect location in the heart of Lerwick, capital of the Shetlands, 2 min. from the harbour, 10 min. from the Mareel culture house and the Shetland museum. The hotel is somehow run down (compared to an imaginary original state), yet this discrepancy between the visible past and the present boosts the ambiance. A very small crew, yet very helpful. For any problem we got a solution. Great view from the rooms over the roofs of Lerwick over to Bressay isle.
Many facitilites like lounge, luggage depot, night club are closed for years. As a guest you move between your bedroom and the large and beautiful dining hall. No lift for the house is listed as a historical monument. The hot water supplies need a remake. Friday and Saturday nights are quite noisy until 1 or 2 a.m. because of the bar right opposite the hotel. So better go there and have a dring and share the talk.
Very friendly and helpful staff. Great breakfast. Comfy room and perfect location.
It’s a central location and the breakfasts were good
It’s a very old property- and quite expensive for how basic it is
Gratis parking binnen loopafstand.
wifi viel regelmatig weg
Very helpful staff. Great restaurants nearby.
The only problem with the room was low shower pressure.
The staff were first class throughout the stay. Some of them had worked there for many years and were very loyal to this hotel - now fadded from its former glory.
The breakfast was first class. The personal attention was greatly appreciated.
The ready offer of help with carrying luggage to and from the room was much appreciated, extending even to taking it to the car proir to departure.
Problems can be traced back to bureaucratic restrictions imposed by Historic Environment Scotland preventing necessary renovations to the building and its facilities - with particular reference to the much required installation of a lift.
The staff work heroically to deliver a quality service within this increasingly problematic building.
Perfect location around stores to shop
Nothing to say on this has hotel was excellent n the staff was friendly and helpful
I liked everything old world charm
No complaints
Hotel is really convenient, centrally located with really friendly staff always happy to help. The breakfast was absolutely fantastic.
The only downside is you need to be able to do stairs as there’s quite a lot of of them!
