Have been coming to this hotel for several years and each time have left a 5 star review. It’s a shame that this visit comes down to 4.
It was a perfectly fine stay, however we noticed that everything was just a bit lower in experience versus previous visits.
There were many small experiences that seem individually petty to complain about, however when added together there was a pattern apparent. Since the last year there has been a seemingly complete turnover pf personnel at the hotel (the familiar faces had all gone and we while we greeted by professional associates there was an air of TSA security rather than warm hospitality.
Gone is the warm and flexible hospitality and replaced with a heightened level of rules based bureaucracy. Each moment sounds petty to complain about but added together the whole set of enforced rules and bureaucracy took the pleasure out of the vacation.
A few little and petty examples:
* family came to join us for a drink at the hotel bar - this I bombed a pre ones to register them and then a 15 minute process on their arrival to take their ID, add details into the computer system, go to the back office to take copies of ID etc
* signing out and in the pool towels
* inconsistent rules strongly applied regarding water bottles in the breakfast lounge
… the list goes on… all small and petty issues, but symptomatic of a new rules based management of the hotel that just takes the edge off the hospitality.
A first time visitor will see the hotel through new eyes and enjoy the decent location, decent facilities (good gym, OK pool, good parking etc) but regular visitors will notice the new regime approach.
Sadly the hotel has become just another corporate place to stay and has seemingly lost his best attraction that was its overwhelmingly great team.
All that said. I would call out two team members for great and friendly service.

We may or may not return on our next visit in a few months, I just hope that management regain their magic and instil some spark into the experience. Please - more hospitality and less airport security mindset.
The in-room ‘minibar’ was not obviously a minibar. In the full size fridge-freezer there was one can of beer, one bottle of coke, lots of bottles of water - no obvious price list - (turns out there was a QR code hidden in a cupboard next to the fridge), so all water taken turned out to be chargeable. For a family of 4 there were only 4 x 600ml bottles of water provided per day in a city that is permanently at 31-33 centigrade. It’s really annoying when we tip happily at the pool bars etc that we get caught out for taking water from the ‘minibar’ and charged accordingly. Don’t get me wrong, the hotel is amazing, great pools, helpful staff, but this felt like a reallly cheap misstep from them and left a sour taste at checkout. Would I go again? Yes, but would ensure we kept calling to housekeeping for ‘free’ water.
Amazing executive suite! The views were jaw-dropping and we were able to have such great time with the access to the regency club as well!
It was a great stay and I look forward to rebooking with them soon. I know only 10 words of Spanish but I never felt helpless because they know enough English to keep things operating smoothly. Location was great. Breakfast had enough choices to satisfy. Rooms are nice.

This hotel is in a great location, close to all the tourist attractions. A mall is located right next to the hotel with good food, shopping, and entertainment. My partner and I enjoyed our stay. If you speak English only, make sure to have a translator app ready because most of the staff only spoke Spanish.

Las zonas comunes y la atención muy buenas, la amabilidad en el restaurante resaltó.
Pagué un upgrade a una suite que realmente parecía más un Airbnb regular, diferente al nivel de las habitaciones regulares. No volvería a tomar esta opción, un precio muy alto por algo regular.

This was a spectacular stay in Cartagena! While it is a walk to the downtown, being on the water is worth it! Excellent staff. Amazing room. Right in front of a supermarket. You can bring pool towels to the beach. I highly recommend!
