The breakfast was fabulous (but no fresh fruit only tinned). Staff were great.
Guests upstairs were noisy
The staff were amazing. Nothing was too much trouble.
The bed was rather hard and uncomfortable.
This place was amazing The quirkiest and most interesting place I've stayed in for a long time. The staff were brilliant and friendly, the room (with a balcony and sea view) was clean and lovely, the breakfast was really good. To have the Napery gallery, pink billiard room, ancient lift etc as well we're all added surprise bonuses. We stayed as a treat for my wife's birthday and she loved the place - earning me good husband points!
The location, although not naturally the most picturesque overlooking the bowls club car park, was very close to the path that runs along behind the beach and was a pleasant half hour walk into the centre of Margate. Very highly recommended, and we will return if we can.
Nothing
There was no airconditioning and the rooms were stiffling. The nights were a struggle! Wifi was also questionable.
Walpole Bay is a real gem. Every aspect of our stay exceeded our expectations and for the hotel owner to come round the tables and enquire how we slept was truly wonderful. The service provided by the staff was exemplary.
There is nothing I didn't like.
It was amazing
Nothing
Love the atmosphere, location and character of this hotel
The art gallery and museum were fascinating. The staff were great, and the owner was very friendly and interesting to speak to.
Nothing
The character, the staff, the breakfast and the proximity to the beach.
Air con in the room would be great.
Wonderful oldy worldy hotel ….like a step back in time
Super friendly staff , quirky and authentic
Quite location, comfy bed, good selection at breakfast, pleasant courteous staff. Delightfully quirky historic hotel.
Low pressure in bathroom basin cold tap
We very much enjoyed out entire stay at The Walpole. We stayed just one night but, will definitely be returning. The hotel is charming. All the staff we encountered were cheerful and helpful. In particular I found the reception ladies so very helpful. Local information, dinner reservation made on our behalf at a local restaurant. And, taxi ordered 👌
Absolutely nothing.
This is an iconic hotel that people go to for all sorts of reasons. Stuck somewhere between 1930 and 1970 it is full of curiosity and is really very odd and interesting.
The thing I disliked most about this Hotel was the breakfast. It was entirely processed apart from a small amount of fruit. Everything was packaged, the bread was appalling and it did if one wanted it to, remind one of the worst motorway café in the 1970s.
The atmosphere. Lift. Pictures. Collections..
Sitting outside.
Lovely staff
Shower difficult to get temperature right
Fascinating hotel with the various museum and art collections. We liked the atmosphere of the hotel, friendly and helpful staff and the lovely patio to have breakfast and see the sea.
The rooms were comfortable too
We liked the board games in the bar .
Good quality tea and coffee station in the room. and soaps etc in the bathroom ( including 3 ply loo paper:)
The hotel is well situated with access to the beach but we found it quite far from the Old Town and the Margate Railway Station , as we didn't have a car and the 69 bus passes only once in an hour ..so we walked a lot more than expected which was nice in the ambient warm weather but wouldn't have worked so well in rain and cold
Very quirky
Lovely friendly staff
Very old and in need of some maintenance
The staff and owner were most friendly and nothing was too much trouble. If you are expecting shiny, modern facilities then this is not the place for you. The hotel was very quirky and everything was from a bygone age. I was expecting to meet Hercule Poirot on the stairs or in the very old fashioned lift. There is a sense of a family run business and it adds to the ambiance of the hotel. As I say not every one’s cup of tea but worth a visit for lovers of the past.
Nothing I have no complaints.
Character, location
Tatty, no aircon
