We stayed as a family of 8 (three generations) for 4 nights! Upon arrival we were told that only 2 rooms were booked which was incorrect as I had booked 3 months earlier. That was sorted and then my parents were given the wrong room (a very small dark room overlooking a fire eacape) when we had paid for a seaview room. Once I contacted reception we received no apology and as the hotel was full they could not relocate my parents to the correct room that we paid for. We did not receive an apology. We were given a refund of a measly £40 which was very bad business. The second day, the room myself, my husband and daughter (age 9) were staying in had part of the ceiling cave in due to a leak above which was foul smelling, not to mention dangerous! The manager never came near us, instead sending a staff member to inform us that we had to move but it meant being seperated as we had no other options - my husband who has mobility issues in a room on his own amd me in a room with my daughter. This was upsetting for my daughter and extremely frustrating for us. We did move back into the original room the next day but it spoiled the holiday. Not once did the manager come near us, not one person apologised and not once did anyone offer to help us move 2 suitcases and 2 other pieces of luggage to the other 2 rooms (which might I add were on seperate floors) The rooms are extremely outdated as it is + the hotel needs an overhaul. 2 days later the manager had still not come near us. It is an absolute disgrace and very poor customer service. As a retail manager of 2 businesses myself, the role of the manager includes keeping your customers happy - well we are far from happy!! And this will not be forgotten about.
Location is good with own inside carpark at back of hotel but we found it very earie with street people hanging about checked car everyday, Hotel needs a good basic update carpets, furniture, especially lift, extremley slow and small , bedroom was nice & clean with all emenities, above all staff are really friendly & helpful but felt they were very stretched at times especially dining times, dosnt help with upstairs concert room been closed for refurb we always had a feeling of being rushed during evening meal due to the fact they were using dining room for entertainment straight after also had to queue every night waiting for people coming out , we were with our grandaughter no emenities or entertainment for families with children
I liked it as it was close to everything we needed both my self and my my sister had a lovely experience and we upgraded to the flagship deal .we are looking foward to returning sooon
Great location, lots of entertainment staff are really friendly.
Hotel is a maze finding your room can be daunting. The corridors and main hotel are really warm.
It’s central easy to get to everything entertainment fabulous
To many scouters about but all in all Great place to stay look forward to next year
After reading the positive reviews for this hotel - we booked to stay for 4 nights requiring 3 rooms for myself and partner, parents and grandmother.
Even before arriving - we contacted the hotel on multiple times regarding my grandmother who is wheelchair bound. We enquired as soon as we booked that she would need a room that is lift level with no stairs, and it was confirmed every time we contacted that she had a room that would meet her needs.
When we arrived - the staff were welcoming and friendly. And we enquired one final time on arrival that my grandmother had a lift level room with no stairs, the staff member we spoke to confirmed that we had and that we had nothing to worry about. We discovered the room my grandmother would be staying in was accessible by lift, although she would've had to been carried down 6 stairs, and up 6 more stairs to her room. When i questioned this, the general manager said the staff who work the reception does not know which rooms are actual lift level to which I replied then they shouldn't confirming to me the room was lift level with no stairs?! i was told that there were no other rooms available to stay in.
Myself and my partner decided to give our room to her as our room was lift level. Her original room was only a single, so between my partner and I - we would've had to share a single bed. The hotel then offered us a camp bed to sleep on. With the size of the room being so small - we stressed of that being a fire safety hazard as we would've had to put it infront of the door and also the inconvenience of having to put the camp bed away when we went out and pull it out when we were going to bed. This was then rectified in myself and my partner being given a double room for the duration of our stay. ( although was told 10 - 15 minutes before this there were no rooms)
There are lifts in the hotel - a grey lift and a red lift both of them go to all floors, some still needing to use stairs to get your room and some that are on the same level as the lift, but if you have families staying on either side of the hotel - you will have to head to the ground floor, across the foyer and up the other side. My parents and grandmother were staying on the grey lift side. Myself and my partner were staying on the red lift side. Lifts are very small fitting only 2 people in and very weight sensitive. Couldn't fit the wheelchair in at all, my grandmother had to be helped up whilst the chair was folded and went up in the lift first, ready for when she came up with my mother so she could sit back down. I understand on the website it doesn't state they are disabled friendly but being that they had rooms on lift level and that it was confirmed to me she had one, this didn't seem a problem.
You can tell of the building's age. Although the rooms are nicely decorated - there are signs of the building showing it's age. For example - there is freshly laid down carpets in the rooms, but I constantly found myself walking over loose floorboards. One of which I could feel my foot going through the floor - possible trip hazard.
The rooms are not really well ventilated. Large windows with only a top push out window which neither of us were tall enough to reach. In order to reach to close/open the window - you would have to climb on top of the knee length window sill.
If you do not pay for an ocean view out of your room window - you will be met with views of buildings close enough for people to see in without closing the blinds.
The rooms were tended to every day while we was out sightseeing. The drinks were cheap. We did not eat at the hotel as we chose to eat out. But we noticed there was a different menu each day. Entertainment seemed okay in the restaurant area, but we did not attend either of the nights we were staying.
There is off site parking, you have to pay to use it, but was told the car park was around the back of the building, this was very misleading as it was not directly at the back of the building. The car park was between a sex shop and the job centre down the road. When I discovered this - I was not happy at all. I enquired about the safety of the car park. I was informed that the car park is CCTV monitored and locked over night with security patrolling the area, I was also informed that we should not worry about the safety of my car, as the only people who use the area are people who want to take drugs or do drug deals and be sheilded by the cars, Very safe indeed!
Overall - no I would not be returning to this hotel as there are too many negatives in my opinion. However, I do not wish to discourage anyone else who wishes to stay here. I believe in letting them find their own opinions. This review is just of our experience of the time we stayed.
Reasonable price great location

Less noise late at night as people were still outside building after 1 am
Central location
Don't bother, rooms unsafe due to cloning of key card,I ended up in an occupied room, rooms not as booked, staff totally uninterested, breakfast cold and tiny portions staff uninterested, save money and go somewhere else, and for safety lock your rooms from inside, and if you go out, check your belongings when you come back, security is a major concern
