We love the hotel & have stayed there before but it is sad without staff either to check us in, give us our keys & even just to pass the time of day! Self-checkin is OK but very impersonal!!

Poor check in experience, sending details to my friend not me (the person who had booked and paid for the room. Room smelt of sick. No bar or restaurant and breakfast underwhelming.
Beds and bathroom was clean. Breakfast basket was really good. Location and proximity to free parking was excellent.
The uneven floor and stairs were a trip hazard. I understand the building is listed but still needs mentioning. The fan supplied in the room was dirty.
Nice large room, dark curtains, good quality fan, nice bathroom. Good communication for the self check in. Really substantial breakfast basket left in our room and a small fridge with juice, water, milk and yogurt

It was clean. Location was OK. Managed to park outside.
It was not clear that self check-in meant that the property was completely unattended. The television didn't work and there was no one to report it to. The cabinet in the bathroom was directly above the sink which restricted access making shaving and washing awkward. The breakfast was in a basket in the room but there wasn't a chair or a table to sit at. There was no choice of cereal - granola, that's it. The granola jar had just been refilled over time and not cleaned out as there was a layer of old crumbs in the bottom of the jar. I have no idea if there were other guests in the place, I didn't see or hear anyone.
The location was good, close to restaurants.
Self check in was OK but it felt very strange walking through an empty bar area and up to the room. Access to the room was via a key box, but the lighting was so bad we found it tricky to see the numbers. The room was dark.
Very comfortable bed and bedding , the breakfast hamper was good with fresh ingredients. Room was nice but tv so small I couldn't watch from the bed . Large room and some nice touches which to me made it slightly better than the 3 stars . I remember when there was a operating restaurant below which was great be good to see that come back . Pleased with the room and the breakfast hamper good to see decent shower gel etc . I would definitely stay again

With the self check in we missed the personal aspect.
Great location and very clean, comfortable bedroom. Very friendly staff and good stop off while we were going to a wedding nearby. Good cafes and restaurants in walking distance and quick to walk from train station. The fan in our room was very welcome!
No cold water, the shower was exclusively and extremely hot. Breakfast was kindly supplied but quite underwhelming.

It is a self-service hotel, so we had no contact with the staff. Slightly off-putting at first.

Self check in couldn’t get the front door open. No staff on site means completely in personal experience. Walking through the closed pub was spooky, which felt like the whole building was empty.
Pre-packed breakfast was ok, but to be honest, I’d have the accommodation as room only, as I’m not keen on pre-packed pastries.
