Professional property host/manager
One of the worst hotels I have been to. The hotel is nothing close to what appears on photos.
The room I was given was literally falling apart. Toilet sink not filling up, kettle machine leaking, shower drain not draining, dirty bed sheets, safe-box not working and cockroaches in the bathroom.
I reported to reception 3 times, and twice to the Manager and BD Manager. All I kept getting was nice words and promises for three days with nothing done!!!!!
Breakfast is too feeble with no buffet but limited options to order from (either omelette, boiled eggs or scrambled eggs with two pieces of toast)!!!
First day dinner I ordered a tuna pizza from the menu and was missing 4 out of the 7 components listed in the menu. I was still charged the full amount!!!!
I had to cancel my booking after only three days despite a booking of 7 days.
If anything positive, it’s the friendliness of the kitchen staff.
The hotel is perfectly located near Bole area. The price is very fair in comparison to the products. The staff is very friendly although this a language differences. The manager Niti is an outstanding manager. He believes in customers satisfaction, he works 7 days a week (which is hard to find) I worked with hilton hotels for 15+ years in different states in USA as GM. My wife and I are enjoying our stay. Thanks for Nati and his staff. Nati is treating all guests as if we're in his own house to me that is customer service is and what a successful manager will do goes beyond the call of duty always. (the exercise room is beyond perfect)
Abdel & Julie room 204
I booking for two wins bed but i get other Claas big one but that is not bad.
Excellent experience. Polite and great staff. Mr Nati was there round the clock. They even upgraded me for minor problems with my room!
Cozy rooms, well furnished rooms and ample space.
Complaints and concerns were promptly resolved. Overall a very good budget hotel in the centre of Addis Ababa.
The hotel room looks great and is very comfortable. The bathroom is excellent. The staff is exceptionally friendly and helpful. I like the balcony, where I was sitting enjoying the sunshine and the view on the city and the mountains.
I will definitely come back again.
We spent just one night at the Abyssinia at the start of our Ethiopia tour. Reception at the hotel was friendly and competent. Our standard twin room (307) seemed a little crammed and the bathroom was tiny. Toiletteries provided were only a bar of soap. Adequate tea/coffee making facilties in the room.
Room was very clean with good linen but rock-hard mattress.
There was a tiny balcony overlooking a fairly lively backstreet.
The breakfast menu could have been more extensive but the restaurant has a nice view over parts Addis.
The reservation agent did not explain clearly where to find the hotel shuttle bus at the airport, but once we located our driver, the shuttle service was smooth and swift. Transfer takes less than 10 minutes.
I enjoyed the art work around the hotel.
There are better hotels in this area at this price range, so we would probably not stay at the Abyssinia again.
I stayed three days at Abyssinia Renaissance hotel from November 8-10,2023.During these days I have seen their hospitalities, quick response for requests and humble to serve the customers and good hotel room facilities.
Thank you all for such kind of service.
From the wonderful service at reception, the spacious, clean rooms and the very comfortable beds, the stay was great. Food and service at the restaurant was excellent. The staff go out of their way to please you and make your stay outstanding. I highly recommend this Hotel.
The rooms were spacious and spotless, with great decor and crisp bed sheets. The breakfast was delicious, with a huge variety of options. The staff were attentive and went out of their way to ensure that we were comfortable.
We spent a week at the Abyssinia Renaissance Hotel and it was a very pleasant stay. The rooms are large with a modern bathroom (full shower enclosure). The restaurant is exceptional with very nice views of the city and new stadium (still under construction). It is not crowded at all. The only drawback is that the front door is on a side street that most drivers find difficult to locate. Even if they do find it, getting in and out of this small alley can be impossible during high traffic hours. There is very limited parking at the hotel.
Worst hotel that I’ve ever stayed. Without knowing the proper booking details they will just allow and make lot of issues while check out.
Me and two friends travelled from Norway and stayed here for one week for a wedding held at this hotel. The hotel is super clean, has a very friendly staff, good food and a nice terrace bar. When we checked out our flight wasn’t until midnight so we got to keep our rom until we left for no extra charge. Super service! The gym has a spa and the massage was nice :)
The hotel is not so close to museums and other things to do, but the area is very safe and close to the airport.
I would really recommend this hotel :)
Was not sure what to expect as i am really visit Addis. The hotel was clean and staff very pleasant. But there is a language barrier challenge depending on who was serving me. They offer airport pick up but when i arrive the vehicle was not there. I later learnt that you need to call and let them know that you are waiting. So if you do book please call when you are out and walk to the end of the taxi area were all the other hotel shuttles wait. For the food.... was not really impressed or maybe i was too tired. The hotel is situated in a kind of sketchy neighbourhood so did not do a lot of walking as i had hoped. I did however find a very pleasant taxi driver that was recommended to me by the hotel.
I spent almost a week at this hotel and it has been a wonderful experience. The hotel owner and staff clearly have a focus on attention to detail with all aspects of the hotel from the lobby, to the bedroom, to the bathroom, matching Western hotel standards. The fitness centre was probably the biggest draw for me with a: sauna, steam room, message lounge and brilliant gym. The level of customer service was unmatched, even in my experience at famous and expensive hotel chains such as Ramada, or the Hilton. I would recommend coming to this hotel as it is absolutely worth the price. Personally, I think it's a little bit too cheap for how good it is :)
I've stayed at the AR twice. The rooms are very clean and have been reasonably refurbished.
The gym is excellent, especially considering the location.
credit card facilities never worked
Do Not Disturb disturbed
laundry initially returned without having been washed
airport pick-up not where instructed and complained about waiting for an hour
$30 early check-in fee attempted
room service without utensils
price matched but not charged
room key didn't work
male receptionist idiot
male doorman wrestled with backpack after being instructed not to drag it
reasonable food
manager excellent
It’s not cheap for Addis, but I thought with the amazing photos and good reviews we would treat ourselves.
The photos don’t lie, but everything out of shot of the photos is dark and dingy. Clearly renovated at some point but very selectively.
Similarly with the rooms. The bathrooms have modern fittings but they are strapped onto ancient tiles and baths. So much so that the new fittings literally hang off the wall. There are holes in the Bath so the water literally flows from the bottom of the bathtub.
The water that comes from the tap and shower is a distinct yellow. Not very pleasant!
The terrace bar (an internal terrace, no views) was awful. They’d run out of everything from ice to cocktail ingredients. Don’t refrigerate the water, etc.
We were also later than expected to the airport because we tried for ages to pay for our stay but the machine wouldn’t work despite technicians being called etc. Luckily the airport was quiet so the delay wasn’t too detrimental.
Only reason for giving it two stars rather than one is because the receptionist when we checked in gave outstanding customer service.
I would not return. I’d stay further from the airport for a better hotel.
I have been staying in hotels in Addis for 11 years, Abyssinia Renaissance Hotel has the best staff, best fitness center with a sauna and bright relaxing, cozy rooms. 5 minutes drive to everything. The staff will bend over backwards to give you what you need, the reception is excellent. For the price, no hotel can beat it....I love staying here, the breakfast is simple yet tasty. Great security and the fitness center is modern and very large with all the equipment you need to get a good workout in. I'm coming back here for sure!
The Abyssinia Renaissance is a very nice hotel with everything a traveler could need. Its location is unfortunate because it is on a side street that is very narrow and often congested. The rooms are very nice and the restaurant is excellent. We enjoyed two dinners in an otherwise empty dinning room. The food was wonderful and beautifully presented. They do not have a presence at the Bole Airport and make sure your driver knows it is the Abyssinia Renaissance Hotel as there are other Abyssinia hotels in Addis.
We were very impressed with this hotel, following a 1-night transit stop in Addis. Although the neighborhood is a bit shoddy, the hotel was great. We had a very nice spacious room, very comfortable, clean, and well-maintained. The free Wifi worked well and we had a TV with a small range of channels, including a few English stations. The shower, although it looked very high tech, did not function well and ended up flooding the entire bathroom floor – this was probably one of the biggest disappointments. The very best thing about this hotel was the excellent gym – probably one of the best hotel gyms I have ever experienced – definitely commercial grade with very new Techno-gym cardio gear and weight machines. There was also a small selection of free weights. We had a great workout there! The buffet breakfast was good – a little bit of everything, including fresh fruit and juice.
Overall we had a great stay, a perfect place for a transit stop, as it was only a few kms from the airport. We would definitely stay here again and highly recommend it to other travelers.
I traveled to Addis in the month of June 2017. It was a very pleasant stay at the hotel for 3 nights. The staff was extremely supportive and friendly. They have got one of the best gyms for your workout after a long hectic day.
The manager Mussie is a very professional and gentleman guy and helped me allot. The rooms are quieter on the top. The have a good bar n restaurant on terrace. All in all an amazing and quite stay with a lot gym workouts. :)
