History when staying in the castle.
Some areas look like they need an upgrade
The main castle is a wonderful old building full of history. There are rooms in the main castle but we stayed in one of the castle view rooms sited in a small annexe across the front lawn just a couple of minutes stroll to the main building. The dining room is very elegant and the food is wonderful. All the front of house staff were friendly helpful and professional.
Although there was an issue with booking in, when we finally got our keys we were pleasantly surprised with the size of the room.
Our room wasn't available until 30 minutes after the booking in time, housekeeping claimed the reason was the heat, considering all rooms are air conditioned maybe they should look for a more plausible excuse 🤔
It would have been nice to have a small fridge in the room enabling us to keep some drinks cold and milk fresh.
Although we were allocated a room with an adapted bathroom for the disabled with really good access (handy for myself having some mobility issues) I did notice all the emergency pull cords had been tied up and hung at least 4'6" high certainly not in reach of a disabled person if they have had a fall and need emergency assistance.
The castle is stunning, the room was amazing and the food was delicious.
We were given a tour of the castle and learned about its history the following morning which was really interesting.
All of the staff we encountered were lovely x
An excellent stay in this magnificent, peaceful spot nestled in nature. Comfortable, tastefully decorated rooms and beautiful gardens where sheep graze. Good dinners and breakfasts; the staff were incredibly attentive.

La posizione e la qualità della cucina
Nonostante la prenotazione di una camera con letto matrimoniale, il letto era molto piccolo con il materasso che usciva dalla struttura del letto di almeno 6-7 cm
Lovely to stay in castle with lots of retained features. Location gave easy access to lots places
The castle itself is fantastic and with great history, it also offers a bit of a tour of the castle itself which was done really well by the waiter superb job well done with the knowledge and enthusiasm etc.
We were rather disappointed with our room which was actually a suite.
1. The room sadly came with a pull out sofa bed which the sofa was what we wanted to relax on, but this is old and had a terrible sweaty smell to it which sadly disappointed us as no where for us to relax on and the room was very musty they obviously tried to air it out before our arrival with all the windows open.
2. The suite that we stayed in is actually sold as a room with a castle view. Maybe 10 years ago when the tress were not smack in front of our room again rather disappointed with this.
What a fantastic experience staying in a proper 14th century castle. The free castle guided tour including the ramparts, banquet hall and chapel was fun , informative and worth all the flights of stairs . The staff were friendly and very helpful. I lost count of how many times staff member asked if they could help with our bags. In hind sight I should have let them. Climbing a spiral staircase carry cases to the Percy room was no mean feat . The evening meal was excellent. Definitely fine dining. All in all our anniversary treat at the castle will not be forgotten for a long time.
Nothing not to like.
The room was large, it was very clean & comfortable. The refreshments were well stocked. It was lovely to see peacocks wandering around.
The castle was absolutely fantastic with a fantastic atmosphere and decor we will be going back again.
The staff are very welcoming and friendly the restaurant and food is excellent.
A fantastic unusual venue with a free tour available so you can learn about the history. Amazing food.
Beautiful, quiet location with lots of history.
Such a lovely and extraordinary experience and atmosphere and very good restaurant! We loved it and the tour around the castle!
The castle and its location are stunning, the restaurant and food were fantastic and the staff were friendly, helpful and attentive. The guided tour of the castle after breakfast was excellent.
