I arrived late due to my ferry from Spain being delayed by several hours. I got to the hotel at around 1am and was greeted by the Night Porter who could not have been more helpful or professional. He checked me in swiftly and then showed me to my room - a first-class check-in experience.
The room - a basement suite - was well appointed, but the bathroom was dimly lit.
The location is actually spot on. Hotel staff gave out great vibes. Amazing building.

Brilliant location and facilities and bars fantastic.
On the 2nd night the water for the shower was minimal.

would have liked a breakfast included rate as it was confusing that altho our breakfast wasnt included a sort of deal was and this caused confusion for us all..i blame booking.com however and its poor communication

The room i was in was appalling it looked like it had not been touched in years. The furniture was old and dirty the walls had marks all over them. it was probably the worst room I had ever stayed in.
The receptionist was lovely. Breakfast staff were polite & efficient.
No lift and my room was up at the top. the toilet roll holder in my bathroom was missing and damaged fixtures were still on the wall. The material on the seats at my table in the room had all the material flaking off. The laminated floor was badly damaged, possibly from water damage, in the kitchenette area. There was a picture on the stairway that referred to an offer during the week of 2 courses for £23, the receptionist was unsure when I talked to her about it, so she asked and was told that is no longer available...when heading back to my room, the frame was being removed from the stairway wall !!!! i went to the bar for a drink and waited as no-one was serving, eventually, I spoke with the receptionist and she had to go and find someone!

I found the staff to be most helpful and respectful.
Unfortunately the printer broke whilst breakfast was being served. Consequently, it took along time to be served and the breakfast arrived cold. I would suggest if that happens again that the staff use note pad and pen to take breakfast orders.
The staff were all lovely, really friendly and approachable.
We stayed in room 002, basement apartment. It was just tired and needed more than cleaning. There were marks on many of the walls, the worksurfaces were damaged and its generally felt like it needed some love. Alongside the fact you have to walk past discarded kitchen equipment, massive amounts of pigeon poop and stored kids toys and rubbish to get to you door does give the best impression. If there had been another room available we'd have moved.

L'extérieur est magnifique quand on arrive de nuit. On croit donc que l'on va vivre un peu la vie de château au cœur d'un beau parc. La chambre familiale est suffisamment spacieuse. Produits de toilette de qualité. Propreté correcte.
Nous étions logés dans les anciens communs. Rien de grave pour une nuit. Cependant, pas de poubelle dans la minuscule salle de bain. Les fenêtres ne s'ouvraient pas alors que la canicule frappait. Un seul petit ventilateur pour deux pièces. Le "English breakfast " était gras, avec un seul toast et une quantité mesurée voire chiche, sans produits frais. Malgré le tarif, nous nous sommes sentis relégués comme les domestiques des Bennet dans Pride and prejudice
Very nice room with lots of space and lovely views.
The shower was no good as no pressure, so didn’t feel like you were having a nice wash. Also, the waste hole in the little basin was very worn and looked old and not in keeping with everything else. We also asked for some larger mugs as the mugs in the room were expresso size so no good for tea! Otherwise a very comfortable and lovely size room.
The building and grounds are beautiful. Breakfast was very good. The staff when you eventually found them were very good. The apartments are huge and well equipped.
This is not a 5 star hotel, we were in the apartments on the 3rd floor and no lifts. The apartment was like an oven, no air con and being at the top of the building nowhere for the heat to go. They eventually cobbled together a very noisy air con unit stolen from an outside pod which was stood on a chair with a very short hose going out the window which was sealed up with towels. It just about cooled the room to just below oven temperature but dropped a puddle of water on the floor that my wife slipped on during the night. We didn't sleep well it was an expensive, hot, uncomfortable night. In the winter it will probably be fine but don't go in the summer unless you want baking at gas mark 6 during your stay.
