No fridge in the room. Decor tired and dated.

Unser erstes Zimmer war leider eine Katastrophe. Es roch extrem stark nach altem Fett und Küchengerüchen, außerdem war es im Zimmer unerträglich warm. Der Grund dafür war die Küchenlüftung direkt unterhalb des Fensters, durch die der gesamte Geruch der Küche in unser Zimmer geblasen wurde. Auch das Öffnen des Fensters brachte keine Abhilfe – im Gegenteil, dadurch wurde der Geruch sogar noch schlimmer.

Um zumindest etwas gegen die Hitze zu unternehmen, wollte ich den im Zimmer vorhandenen Ventilator einschalten. Dieser war allerdings derart verschmutzt, dass man ernsthaft Angst haben musste, sich durch die aufgewirbelte Luft krank zu machen.

Nachdem wir uns beschwert hatten, wurde uns zwar ein anderes Zimmer angeboten, allerdings erst ab dem folgenden Tag. Die Nacht in diesem Zimmer war eine Zumutung und ist mir bis heute äußerst unangenehm in Erinnerung.

Das neue Zimmer war zwar geruchlich deutlich besser, dafür jedoch das kleinste Hotelzimmer, das ich jemals gesehen habe. Das Doppelbett war lediglich 1,40 m breit, was für zwei Personen äußerst beengt ist.

Besonders enttäuschend finde ich außerdem, dass Hotelgäste für die Nutzung des Spa-Bereichs zusätzlich bezahlen müssen. Wenn ein Hotel mit einem Spa wirbt, erwarte ich persönlich, dass dessen Nutzung im Übernachtungspreis enthalten ist – insbesondere bei dem ohnehin hohen Preis, den man für die Ausstattung des Hotels bezahlt.

Insgesamt haben wir es regelrecht vermieden, in unser Zimmer zurückzukehren. Dadurch wurde unser Aufenthalt an diesem ansonsten wunderschönen Ort erheblich beeinträchtigt. Trotz der schönen Lage und des freundlichen Personals kann ich das Hotel aufgrund dieser Erfahrungen leider nicht weiterempfehlen.

The room had no air-conditioning or fan. It was dated and the bathroom tiles were moldy.

Cups and glasses in the room were dirty and the spa was out of action on the Sunday, one of the main reasons we booked this hotel.

Terrace was full, but did have a seat in an area by the Spa.

We paid £10 each for the spa spent a couple of hours in there we came back out for lunch with the intention of going back in ,to be told then by staff that there would be an extra charge to go back in. There was no one else in the spa, thought this a bit unfair.

This felt like a step back into the 70's. It's a hotel that has stayed locked firmly into the old expectations of 'English seaside hotel' and not kept up with the where the rest of the hotel industry currently is. Broken lift, uneven floors, musty smelling rooms and shower with very low water pressure.

In addition, I am disabled and I had been informed the lift was broken before going. In emails, I was told there was a stair lift and that it was only two flights of 7 steps to my room. When I got there, the stair lift could only be activated by someone else and it was actually 26 steps and I had to be helped up and down the stairs by the staff (which they did very well). So much for independent living

The lift was broken and had been for sometime, but I was not made aware of that until I arrived.. On arrival I informed them I would be using the spa on the Sunday. I was informed on Sunday that I could not because the ceiling had fallen down.. Although I was informed parking would be on a first come first served basis I did not expect to have to park on a street nearly half a mile away. I was promised a walk in shower because I am disabled, but I expected it to be larger than a telephone box !. No alternative was available. The bathroom itself was very small and in such poor condition, with sealant peeling off, rust on metal work. Shower leaking. Two tiny bins in room. Neither with a lid on.

The lifts were broken, the whole spa was out of commission due to a leak and there were stains on the carpet throughout the whole hotel

We were advised we had been upgraded to a club room but we were in the basement with the cleaning rooms. Lovely views of the garden but a tired room. We had paid extra for this stay in Torquay but was not a premium hotel. Lovely breakfast which catered for gluten free.

My only complaint was the service in the restaurant let the weekend down.
Staff were friendly and polite, however:
- wait between courses was long. I think we waited almost 45 minutes between started and main.
- when food was bought to us, it was placed on the table but we were not asked if we wanted any drinks or condiments.

Cupboard acting as wardrobe had not been cleaned in a long time judging by the dust collected on my clothes!

Being disabled and not being informed that they have no lift working and having to climb four flights of stairs to the room
