A hotel where they treat you as friend not just guest
Pros:

We stayed in a sea-view room and woke up to Cretan Sea views. All meals at the buffet were fresh local fare, and the hotel’s own beach access saved us the walk with the baby. Staff knew the island well and made specific restaurant recommendations that actually made a difference.

Andreas and his team greeted us by name each morning and actually asked about our plans with genuine interest. It really felt like staying at someone’s well-run property.

This is where we’d stay again when we return to Crete!

The standout feature of Rethymno Palace is undoubtedly the staff, who were consistently friendly, welcoming, and eager to help throughout our stay. Their professionalism and positive attitude made a genuine difference to our holiday. The hotel has good facilities, a pleasant atmosphere, and good location 15 minutes drive from the town. Overall, we had a pleasant stay and appreciated the effort of the team in making guests feel welcome.

Cons:

There are several areas where improvements could help the hotel better reflect its 5-star rating. On arrival, the room was very hot, making it difficult to sleep, particularly for guests arriving late. Cooling rooms before guest arrival would create a much better first impression.

I was also surprised that guests are required to pay extra for the room safe and certain activities such as air hockey, as these would typically be included at a 5-star property.

The food was the weakest aspect of our stay. While there was generally a reasonable selection available, many dishes lacked flavour and did not reflect the high culinary standards that Crete is known for. Some ingredients appeared to be of lower quality than expected, and items such as the olives were hard and lacked freshness. The late-night buffet was particularly disappointing, offering limited choice and portions. Guests with specific dietary requirements may also find the options restrictive, with very few clearly identifiable halal-friendly choices available.

The hotel could also benefit from providing more entertainment and activities for families and children. Around the pool, music was sometimes played too loudly, which affected the atmosphere. Finally, the beach area could be made safer and more accessible through the addition of a boardwalk and improved access points to the sea.

We had a wonderful stay at this hotel.

The highlight of our experience was definitely the staff. The service was among the best we’ve ever received. everyone was friendly, professional, and genuinely cared about making our stay enjoyable.

The hotel was spotless and very well maintained. While it may not be the newest hotel, everything was clean, comfortable, and well looked after.

We really enjoyed the breakfast, the spa, and the pool area. Having the beach right next to the hotel and a pool bar overlooking the sea made every evening special, we ended each day with a drink while watching the sunset.

It was also clear that the hotel is constantly looking for ways to improve, with activities for guests and great attention to detail.

Overall, this hotel offers excellent value for money, outstanding service, and a relaxing atmosphere. We would definitely stay here again and highly recommend it.

Cons:

It would be great if there was a restaurant that guests that didn’t take the all inclusive could order some food but we were given the option to order from outside so they found a solution for us :)

I had an absolutely wonderful stay at Rethymno Palace! From the moment I arrived until the day I left, everything exceeded my expectations.

The staff were incredibly kind, welcoming, and professional, always making sure I had everything I needed. Their genuine hospitality made me feel at home throughout my stay.

The hotel was spotless, and my room was spacious, comfortable, and impeccably clean every day. The housekeeping team did an excellent job, and I really appreciated the attention to detail.

The food was outstanding, with a wide variety of fresh and delicious options at every meal. There was always something new to try, and the quality was consistently excellent.

I also loved the atmosphere of the hotel. It was the perfect balance between relaxing during the day and lively in the evenings. The entertainment and parties were so much fun and added something special to the whole experience.

One of the things I appreciated most was the hotel’s close proximity to the beach. It was just a short walk away, making it so easy to enjoy the sea whenever I wanted. The pool area and the overall facilities were also very well maintained, creating a beautiful environment to relax and enjoy the holiday.
