Magic Hotel Xhibition is a self-service hotel. All necessary information is by the self-check in area – Entrance is from Olav Kyrres gate. The reception at Korskirken is open 24/7. You will receive an email with check-in instructions and access codes on the day of check-in – contact reception if you have a late arrival. The reception is located in Magic Hotel Korskirken, Nedre Korskirkeallmenningen 1A, 5017 Bergen. Entrance via Rema 1000, marked with a sign.

Solo female travellers may want to find somewhere else
Pros:

The location was perfect, just a couple of minutes from Light Rail no. 1 from the airport. The room was reasonably comfortable, but the decor a bit overwhelming.

Cons:

Lack of safety. When I returned to room at 10pm at night there was a highly agitated man, sweating profusely, wearing the hood of his hoodie partially hiding his face, trying to get access to the hotel corridor - note there is no front desk and anyone can use the lift or stairs to get to the hotel corridor entrance and the rooms all are directly off this corridor. To enter you need to use your card and the door closes very slowly afterwards. The man was telling me while screaming that his girlfriend was inside and I had to let him in. There was no way I was going to do this so I could not enter the hotel safely. I went downstairs and waited until several other guests were heading up so that they could decide what to do. I also tried calling the phone number given but nobody answered. To add to this some things in the room were broken (e.g. some lights not working). The safety would be my major concern though. This is not a secure way to have entrance into a hotel and not suitable for solo female travellers.

Cons:

The check in process was annoying and not up to the promise. Some other guests also had unpleasant experience. I would like to make a full record of my case. The hotel has to improve it.

According to the hotel's advertisement on booking.com, (screenshot attached), the check-in instruction will be communicated by email. There is no mention of SMS.

On the day of arrival, they sent me an EMAIL via booking.com, saying that the check-in instruction would be provided by 3pm (without reference to means of communication). In reality, they sent the information to my home phone number which I din't have access to when I was overseas this time. I was totally unaware of it and had no obligation to check my phone messages to communicate with the hotel.

I rang the hotline number three times to finally catch a female receptionist who gave me information to collect my key card. The card did not work. I tried to ring them six more times in 15 minutes. Nobody picked up the call. I had to walk to the other hotel to speak directly to two receptionists and collect the card. It turn out that earlier she gave me someone else's room key, but anyway that key did not work with the door to the common area.

I complaint about the lack of information in advance but the two receptionists insisted that a sms had been sent. They did their job. Done.

But let me confirm it: It is not the way they announce in the advertisement. They DID NOT DELIVER AS PER THE CONTRACT. It was unprofessional and non-transparent. It was their fault but they said as if it was my fault. There were no apologies at all. Staff did not know their work. They took things for granted. It was unfair and disrespectful. I did not expect this level of service and attitude in Norway.

The hotel managers need to look into this matter. Do what you say. Don't just take money and let people suffer.

Shame on you.
