There was no comfortable chairs to sit in the room. They were hard and low to the floor. Terrible coffee in the room. Odd smell from the bathroom. Weird pajamas.

Perfect location, helpful staff and a stylish, comfortable stay.
Pros:

Kyoto Granbell Hotel was an excellent base for exploring Kyoto. The location is perfect, with many of the city's attractions, restaurants and shops within easy walking distance.

The staff were friendly, welcoming and particularly helpful in arranging our luggage forwarding, which made travelling on to our next destination much easier. Our room was larger than expected, well equipped and spotlessly clean.

The hotel strikes a great balance between modern comfort and Japanese design, creating a tranquil atmosphere that provided a welcome retreat after busy days sightseeing.

We would happily stay here again.

Cons:

The breakfast buffet was good, with a nice selection of Japanese and international dishes. As Western travellers, we would have appreciated a few more Western breakfast options, but there was still plenty of choice and the quality was good.

Pros:

Wonderful location, close to everything. Beautifully maintained and clean throughout. Lovely amenities and friendly staff.

Perfect oase to slow down and relax, but located in the middle of everything!
Pros:

Onsen, open till late night, i used every night. Very relaxing.
Huge variety of ( free ) supplies like face and body cosmetics, even unlimited face-masks.
Very nice and friendly staff.
PERFECT location.

Cons:

They didnt make a room at all. Just left fresh towels and picked up trash. It was very unusual for me.

Wir haben unser Gepäck von dem Hotel in ein anderes Hotel liefern lassen und das Gepäck ist immer noch nicht da . Sie haben uns versichert das es am selben Tag ankommt und das Hotel nimmt die Verantwortung nicht über dem ganzen . Das ganze hat stolze 30€ gekostet umgerechnet . Sehr sehr unprofessionell und das andere Hotel war 20 Minuten nur entfernt . Am Telefon sind sie auch nicht hilfreich sondern eher unprofessionell und haben keine Antworten . Schande wir stehen ohne Kleidung ohne Pflege da ! Ich rate jedem sein Gepäck Stück nicht dem Hotel zum liefern zu überlassen .

Fantastic stay and would stay again.
Pros:

It was beautifully decorated and felt very traditional but modern at the same time. The staff were great, very friendly and helpful. The location was fantastic with plenty of places to eat, shop and public transport links very close by.

Cons:

In my opinion, The food options were limited. But I am a bit of a fussy eater so that’s more a me problem.

Very mixed experience
Pros:

Japanese hotels are outstanding for their service and cleanliness and the Kyoto Granbell is no exception. It's a smallish hotel in a superb location, great for visiting Gion on foot and with transport links across Kyoto.

BUT... the rooms are small and cramped with a view over the car park and a slowly collapsing building next door, the food options are uninspiring and it's not very nice to charge 5,000 yen for an early check-in when the room is already available (this is the only hotel we stayed at in Japan which did this).

Overall a mixed experience - a room which was essentially all bed with no wardrobe space and a rip-off check in experience balanced against outstanding staff and a really convenient location.
