Garrison Hotel & Suites Dover-Portsmouth, an Ascend Collection Hotel

I am sort of surprised by the more than 3 star reviews. Lets review:
1 - We arrived at 3:55pm. Check in is at 3pm. Room not ready. Just kept saying another 5 minutes. Got in room about 4:30. At least they have snacks, and did lower the rate for one nite.

2 - Breakfast. Pretty dismal. Rehydrated eggs every day and sausage patty. They so have some fruit, and energy bars to make up the inedible eggs. They ran out of coffee both days, and its luke warm at best. Thank God DD is 100yds away.

3- Moisture. Our room felt like a steam room. It was cold, but probably 80% humidity. The sheets actually felt "wet" when you get in bed. Just awful, I should have changed rooms but that is such a pain in the butt

4- "Full Kitchen" - No glassware. No paper towels.
5 - Left in the morning, asked for our garbage to be picked up and just two more towels. Got back to room. Nope, no change
6 - The parking lot is too small. When full, people actually parked in the Tesla charging stations!

Overall it is an "ok" place to stay as the location is great. But they really need to pay attention to the details.

Enjoyed our stay! Room was clean, well appointed and quiet. Bed was super comfortable. Staff was pleasant and helpful. Breakfast was a huge surprise! Lots of variety and tasty. Would highly recommend this hotel.

Not sure what happened inside one year. But the quality went down. Last July wonderful place, this year the hardwood floors in the rooms and lobby dirty. I didn’t dare walk without shoes. If the hardwood floors are dirty I am assuming the carpets are just as bad. Great location, beautiful town, would love to stay here again.

Garrison Hotel, Dover NH
Visiting a sibling and her family during the December 2025 holiday season, I booked a room at the Garrison Hotel & Suites Dover-Portsmouth, an Ascend Collection Hotel in the Choice group of hotels (Room: $110; Taxes and other charges: $9.93). This will be my fifth stay at the Garrison, which I have selected because of its close location to my sister’s family home in Dover.

The hotel has consistently proved to be a good choice. The room was clean, well-furnished, and quiet throughout my stay. The front staff members were alert, helpful, and easy to understand. There are an indoor pool and a fitness center, and a grab-and-go breakfast was offered (although I had an early departure, so I declined the offer). Making and confirming the reservation was seamless and problem-free.

The bed was comfortable, which is very important to us. However, leaving on the morning after a snowstorm, the driveway was not plowed or shoveled. Also, on reviewing the bill after staying there, I saw that the hotel itself charged a 17.99 service fee. Usually those kind of fees are charged by a booking company.

I appreciate seasonal decorations and this hotel was fantastic with their Halloween decorations both inside and out. Every corner had some decor to be seen or be spooked by. I also appreciate seeing the bird feeder outside my window. For the first time, I saw a Cardinal and although this may seem mundane to anyone from this region, we do not have Cardinals in CA, therefore; I was delighted to see it.

We had the bigger room #227, clean (some stickiness on floor), complimentary slippers, toothbrush/paste, shampoo that suds, clock, & friendly staff. Room faced freeway-noise was not bothersome but I could hear it.

For breakfast there was a variety; eggs, sausage, cereal, easy oven pancakes, coffee, bagels/toast, fruit, juice (in a can :0)) - something for everyone, even soy milk.

A/C heater is that of a typical hotel. When I went to bed I made the error of putting it on auto, so when the temp dropped below the desired 63, it would kick on. I should have just stuck it at a temp so temp would not drop to become cold then kick on to become hot. Not a great night sleep for me because of this but I assume, if I had not made this error, it would have been much better sleep.

Great place to stay, prices were fair and the accommodations were wonderful. Rooms were clean and well maintained and services were fantastic. Would highly recommend them.

The room was so beautiful and spacious
, smelled amazing, super clean, shower pressure was on great. Customer service was great, breakfast was good, after 2pm the served popcorn, definitely recommending this hotel to friends and family who visit. Area was gorgeous

Staff is amazing. We had a smaller room this night and didn’t really care for it. It was a little too small. Parking was never a problem. We just enjoy the hotel.

The stuff was really friendly and get me a good trip advice.
The Halloween decorations were good.

We booked what they said was the best room in the hotel, but it had mold in the dresser draws and shower floor was broken, dirty, and had a temporary putty on it. Should not offer to anyone else until those two items are fixed.

The staff was wonderful and the place was all decked out for Halloween later on in the month. It was very clean and definitely recommend it.
