Ox Hotel Carlisle

A very, very odd place.

It took a long time to find someone to check in. No staff in Reception, eventually a member of staff turned up after about 20 minutes. Nobody was manning the bar so I didn't buy a drink.
Breakfast buffet had very little choice and no fruit. To order a cooked breakfast it was necessary to order this from Reception but nobody informed me of this reqirement and nobody was on Reception desk to take my order when I came down.
This hotel badly needs a good manager on the premises to get the staff working efficiently and deal with customer issues.

The Evening meal was very poor

Place was not signposted from the street. Building oes not have good frontage. Shower has the power of a dripping tap. No hairdryer or electric socket near mirror. Decor finish was very poor and need of update. I.e. door had peeling vinyl covering, radiator fixed to wall uneven. Room could have been cleaner with dust on the skirting and the fan. Corridors carpets were marked and old. Signage to show the direction where rooms were was missing. Not sure there were lifts?

See above. Despite the advert, no food was available in the evening or breakfast. The hotel is sited at the top of a hill, not visible from the road and not signposted. For £35 per room it was adequate for us returning from a motorcycle tour in Scotland but I wouldn't take my wife there.

TV did not work.
WIFI available only in reception/bar area...not in room.

De kamers waren niet goed schoongemaakt (onze voeten waren onmiddellijk vuil).
De kamers werden ook niet gekuist de volgende dag (we hadden dat gevraagd aan de receptie en aan het kuis personeel en beiden hadden gezegd dat dat in orde zou komen - helaas is dat niet gebeurd). De receptie verontschuldigde zich wel en stelde een andere kamer voor doch de voorgestelde kamer was nog warmer en een verdieping hoger - dus te veel werk om de hele boel in te pakken en alles naar boven te sleuren.
Locatie: buiten het centrum met industriegeluid en autogeraas op de achtergrond.
Vergane glorie: ooit moet dit een goed hotel geweest zijn doch is al jaren niet meer onderhouden. De eetzaal en bar waren verschrikkelijk warm - geen koeling en ook geen volk.

Extremely hot

air con broke in gym, radiator on in rooms due to hot water pipe in a heatwave making it unbearable (we were moved which was good), a bed on wheels that moved with the slightest touch so poor to zero sleep, ice machine at bar not working, very restricted WiFi in room, breakfast advertised as £7.50 each by phone and then told its £11.99 on the day by receptionist
