Location, style, rooms
Pool area could have been kept cleaner. When people left towels and glasses they were there for ages rather than being cleared away.
Lovely staff & contemporary designed hotel.
Clean & well thought out details.
Shower slightly too small & a/c needs attention
The design & staff.
Bed & linen were exceptional. Pool and Pool bar were lovely if not a bit small. Breakfast was good.
My partner didn’t like the design of the bathroom. No web connectivity on the TV so you couldn’t get any or pay to view channels such as Netflix or Amazon Prime. The sound on the TV was very poor muffled by the surrounds. The hedge on the Infinity pool was too high and you couldn’t see the view - just needed to be trimmed.
A fantastic hotel with an excellent location and breathtaking views over the Douro River. The room was spotless, spacious, and very comfortable. The facilities are outstanding, including a beautiful panoramic pool, sauna, hammam, and a well-equipped gym. Everything was perfectly maintained, and the overall atmosphere was luxurious yet relaxing. We had a wonderful stay and would definitely come back. Highly recommended!
Amazing views of the city, quiet and tucked in but still walking distance to everything. Excellent service, really nice touches in the room. Loved the art aspects. Our massages and spa day was incredible!
Excellent staff, wonderful breakfast, clean room, comfortable bed, great facilities, excellent location.
Wow, love this hotel, my son and I stayed for just one night, while walking the Camino, we were booked for the sister hotel but it wasn’t operational so we’re transferred to the Torel Avatagarde.
Loved the room, the staff were all so friendly and helpful, they went above and beyond to make our brief stay so unforgettable.
Had dinner in the restaurant which was FAB and breakfast was amazing.
Very clean, great views of Porto.
Would highly recommend.
Location and staff
Paid extra for an executive superior room but it was very small for such an expensive room. The advert for that type of room is very misleading as the pictures shown are actually the apartments from the building next door
The staff were amazing and couldn't do enough to help including when we had a slight issue with our final night stay where we had upgraded our room to a balcony room for the Saint John (Sao Joao) Festival.
We stayed for 4 nights, had a few cocktails and breakfast there and it was always lovely.
We also had a couple's back massage in the spa which was excellent, just the trick before flying home, and I used the gym which was adequate for what is a boutique hotel.
All in, the hotel was lovely, the views amazing and the staff looked after us and were always friendly and helpful.
Thanks Torel Avantgarde team for making our stay so lovely xxx
A stylish hotel base, with a cool & calming environment. Perfect for walking/exploring around the city. Great staff, fantastic cocktails.
We had a pleasant stay overall, and I would like to start by highlighting the positives. The staff were always friendly, welcoming, and eager to help. The hotel itself is beautiful, the breakfast was delicious, and the location is excellent.
However, I do not believe the hotel currently lives up to its five-star rating for several reasons.
First, the hotel advertises a 24/7 WhatsApp service where guests can contact staff with requests. Unfortunately, this did not work as intended. We never received replies to our messages and had no way of knowing whether they had even been seen. This made the service feel unreliable and unnecessary.
Secondly, we had an early morning flight and were unable to attend the breakfast buffet because it only opened at 7:30 a.m., which is quite late in my opinion for a five-star hotel. The only alternative offered was a sweet or savoury snack box containing items such as protein bars. I find it disappointing that a five-star hotel could not prepare three simple breakfast plates just 30 minutes before the buffet opened. A more flexible solution would have made a significant difference.
Another issue occurred during check-out. The hotel did not seem to have a clear overview of what we had already paid for (such as the beers and soft drinks in the room upon arrival) and what still needed to be charged. I would expect a five-star hotel to have better systems in place to manage guest accounts. Situations like this create unnecessary confusion and reduce trust.
Finally, we ordered room service on our first evening. Unfortunately, around half of the menu, including all pizzas, was unavailable. We ordered a ham and cheese sandwich, a steak sandwich, a club sandwich, and an ice cream sandwich for dessert. All sandwiches came with fries, but the fries were cold, soggy, and clearly not freshly prepared. The sandwiches themselves were of very poor quality and lacked flavour. Considering that room service is an important part of the experience at a five-star hotel, we expected food that was enjoyable and of a much higher standard. It was, without question, the worst meal we had during our stay in Porto.
Overall, this is a lovely hotel with kind and professional staff, and we would still recommend it because of its beautiful facilities and excellent location. However, there are several operational and service issues that need improvement. Addressing these would greatly enhance the guest experience and help the hotel truly meet the standards expected of a five-star property.
Wonderful boutique hotel. The Mozart room, #16, en suite, boasts the best soaking tub, overlooking the Duoro river and waterside restaurants and shop - perfect for morning coffee or evening wine/port after a full day of exploring. Don’t miss the extensive morning breakfast buffet, including to order eggs Benedict that a birdie tells me are incredible. The gym, indoor and outdoor pools, all excellent. The staff also stands out in their commitment to addressing any need.
The staff were all amazingly helpful. The hotel was clean and we were able to ask questions via WhatsApp which made communicating easier. The views of the Duoro River were fantastic.
Great location, great amenities, great bartenders. The Spa was a treat with talented masseuses. The rooms are spacious and well decorated.
Our experience was wonderful from the moment we entered and were offered a glass of sparkling. Amazing vibrant architecture with contemporary colour scheme, each room is something special. It has everything to promote your health and wellbeing spa package, massage services and sauna. The staff are attentive and welcoming but discreet attending to your every need and following up the next day. As one would expect in such a high class boutique hotel, dining has amazing ambience and yet there are quiet areas such as the flower room to relax in. The location is perfect close enough to walk in the heart of Porto and near the Botanical Gardens, our room had a lush river view. A sitting area to relax in and television screens cleverly inset into mirrors completed the room, so different from the usual big screen dominated room.
Great stay at the hotel. All the staff were very friendly, easy to talk to and helpful for information needed. Rooms were clean and always a chocolate waiting when the bed was turned down. Breakfast choice was great, although bread served with eggs benedict was stale tasting.
Room was perfect, service too , spa réactive.
