Lovely lobby, pleasant and responsive staff
This was our second stay at Shangri-La Colombo and it was just as amazing as the first. The service here is on another level. Even with so many guests checking in and out every day, the staff are always friendly, professional, and happy to help. The rooms are beautiful, comfortable, clean and have everything you need. We absolutely love staying here, and whenever we’re back in Colombo, Shangri-La Colombo will always be our first choice.

Breakfast- was sumptuous and variety helped with anyone with special requirements. I am a vegetarian and insulin dependant. I found the choice suitable.
We dined in the Shang palace. Food was incredible.
They have to ensure the screw top bottles can be opened with less effort. Shangrila is very generous and give us 6 glass bottles of water. Sometimes we could not open the screw top. It was not an issue as the housekeeping replaced those bottles.
Had placed a request for my kids breakfast, it was served rite on time.. On the DOT. The food was packed and brought to India on the same day and my daughter had it for lunch in India by 4 PM. The food prepared at 7 AM was fresh and good.
My daughter had idly for breakfast at the idlies were so soft and hot that she had 2 of them and loved it.

What a disappointment – Shangri-La Colombo.
My visit today was yet another reminder of why I won't be returning.
Let's start with the parking. There is no valet parking, which is quite shocking for a hotel of this calibre. Guests arriving in their own vehicles are left to navigate a confusing maze of car parks, endless turns, and the OGF mall just to reach the hotel lobby. I only found this out today because I'm usually chauffeur-driven or arrive by cab, so I've never had to ask whether valet parking was available. Honestly, I assumed it was a standard service at a five-star hotel—many four-star hotels offer it too.
Since I've had disappointing dining experiences here before, I wisely ate at home before my meeting. The only reason we chose Shangri-La was because the lobby is spacious, comfortable, and a pleasant place to meet.
I ordered what has to be one of the simplest drinks imaginable—a papaya juice. Somehow, it turned out to be the worst papaya juice I've ever tasted. It was completely unpalatable. I asked the staff to have the person who prepared it taste it themselves. The lobby manager politely explained that they hadn't added sugar or lime. But that's exactly the point—don't decide on behalf of the customer. Ask whether the guest prefers sugar or lime instead of assuming. Customer preference should always come first.
Then came the final disappointment. After making our way back through the OGF lifts and parking levels, we presented our validated parking tickets at the exit, only to be charged Rs. 750 because we had exceeded the three-hour parking limit. So even with validation, there are unexpected parking charges.
Unfortunately, that's the last straw for us.
If you're considering Shangri-La Colombo for a wedding, event, or even a casual visit, think twice. The food has consistently been bland and uninspiring, the parking experience is unnecessarily frustrating, and you may still end up paying parking fees despite having validated tickets.
Shangri-La Colombo has the reputation and the setting of a luxury hotel, but the overall guest experience falls far short of the standard one would expect.
Beautiful views of the city and the sea. Amazing range of delicious food from around the world for breakfast. Nice outdoor pool. Beautiful polite staff throughout.
