The terrace area with outdoor seating, overlooking the pool and with a sea view. Bar area felt comfortable and the drinks from the bar were made to a good standard all week.
The facilities in our room didn’t work on arrival, the toilet flushing was broken and not strong enough to flush anything away, the bathroom sink did not drain and filled with water, the bathroom door did not close properly due to a faulty handle. We asked to change rooms and were advised that this was not an option, and that maintenance would be sent to the room due to the concerns raised.
The food was mediocre and not worth the cost. The sirloin steak tasted like it had been fried in too much oil and appeared to have gone grey, the scrambled egg at breakfast had been bulked out with milk and was white, the beans were served cold, the fried egg had a film over the top of it and was solid because of being splashed in oil. The hotel ran out of oat milk. Every day the food was different with different types of bread for breakfast and appeared to be a variation in chefs and quality of food standard changing every day. Overcharged for a chicken Caesar salad which had to then be refunded the difference. The staff member processed the refund but the system then cancelled the order completely, resulting in waiting nearly an hour for a salad before asking where it was, and a different staff member advising that the chefs weren’t aware of the ticket order.
There was black mould in the jacuzzi. There was black mould in the window frames. The windows were dirty with brown water marks in the pool area and on the bedroom windows. Wood in the sauna requires replacing due to wear and tear.
The wifi was appalling throughout the hotel, especially in the bedrooms. Unable to complete any work during the week because of the poor connection and speed of the wifi. Terrible for a working week away.
For comparison, the Salcombe and the Richmond Harbour Hotels were a much better experience, so our expectations were based on having good experiences previously at other Harbour Hotels.

Lovely choice of fresh fruits at breakfast. Appreciated adaptations to meals to accommodate dietary requirements.

The service wasn’t exceptional and the outdoor pool was really crowded outdoor tables Weren’t cleaned properly, And the menu for breakfast has no options basically and they don’t even have a buffet.

Room was better than we expected, with lots of nice touches like welcome gin in a decanter, bottled water, big towelling robes. The room managed to relatively cool with the air con and fan and it was quiet and not far from reception. We had drinks in the bar the first night then dinner - service excellent. Breakfast great, we were served promptly and the buffet was topped up. During our break we drank at the bar several times as we met up with friends and found staff to be professional and friendly.
Car parking could have been explained better. The hotel provided us with a voucher for the public car park across the road, so when we checked out we wanted to stay on for a hour and a half but that meant more trips back and forth to public car park for the voucher, note there is not enough car parking at the hotel to provide parking for all guests. We booked the hotel as it stated free parking on the website. That said we would stay there again, but arrive earlier to ensure a parking space in the public car park.
The room and the pool were great, all the staff we encountered at the spa were great. The free gin was a nice touch
The breakfast was very disappointing. It was only continental, you had to pay for a cooked breakfast. The continental, was a very small buffet breakfast that didn't match up to the rest of the hotel.
Staff were very friendly, hotel spotless, and there was great seaside atmosphere. The bar and lap pool overlooking the beach was something really special - we loved it. Nice big room too and the beds were very comfortable. Perfect location at the top of the bay.
The car park fills up quickly but I understand there's public parking over the road if you don't get a space.
Upon arrival the reception team were friendly and approachable, they were kind and helped us with finding a parking space. Although we were early we could use all facilties including the heated and very clean outdoor pool, restaurant, bar and spa. We had lunch from the light snacks menu which was delicious and beautifully presented and then went for a walk into the town, the hotel is less than a 5min walk and only 2mins walk to the beach.
The evening dinner restaurant menu was perfect and I sent my compliments to the chef on the beef bourgignon (highly reccomend).
ALL the staff were friendly, happy and approachable. The spa was clean and relaxing. The gym (although we did not use it) was fully equipped and very clean and quite large.
The entire hotel decor was beautifully presented and well thought out creating a very relaxed and homely feel.
The gardens were impeccably well kept.
Our room was again very clean and beautifully presented and full of complimentary items including a fridge with water, soft drinks, snacks, robes, slippers, shampoos, shower accessories, hairdryer, HUGE TV and even gin and tonic water. Our bathroom was also a loverly size and very clean.
The mattress and bedding were divine and we had an amazing night's sleep.
Overall we had a fantastic weekend stay and would highly reccomend and will be returning.
Through no fault of the hotel but when leaving the seagulls decided to use our car as toilet for the weekend, this is not to be frowned upon as to be expected being a stones throw away from the beach.
We’ve stayed at all the major hotels in Sidmouth. Where the Harbour Hotel scores so highly is its versatility. It has a spa, an indoor pool, an outdoor pool, a lovely indoor lounging area, distinct outdoor lounging areas including a couple of lawns, and uninterrupted views of Sidmouth’s glorious seafront from the conservatory-like dining room. It also sits about 200 metres west of the bustling promenade, which makes it perceptibly quieter than the seafront hotels.
Service at breakfast and dinner times can be a little slow to get going (i.e. those very first coffees, drinks orders, water, food orders etc). However, once those initial requests kick in, everything else runs very smoothly, and the service is always very hospitable.
Reception staff very helpful. We were phoned as soon as our room was ready (early). Our room was large and comfortable- great bed and bedding.
Both pools very small, particularly the outdoor one.
Breakfast a bit chaotic; coffee took ages to arrive and service slow. We felt it was a bit mean not to include a cooked breakfast.
Location was brilliant.hotel was very clean staff are friendly .

The rooms are comfortable and spacious.
They have thought of everything that you may need
They even cater for dogs, with beds, blankets and treats !!
The views are spectacular and it is only a stones throw from the town centre
We were spolit with the choice of two swimming pools and a relaxed spa area.
I would personally like to thank the front of house team who made our stay extra special
