Location is hard to beat. Whether you're a seasoned Londoner or visiting for a weekend, you're right in the middle of the action at the Mandrake, walkable to just about everywhere - but also in the quiet and calm when you need to be.
The TV didn't work properly
The staff were amazing. Professional, playful, they made you feel like you were on the inside of their clique. They clearly have fun at work and enjoy taking care of people and building a culture. I also liked the weekend party atmosphere. The cheeseboard was amazing and the overall vibe of the hotel was sexy. The decor is plush and well put together, especially in the social areas. The location is amazing.
The TV system was buggy, it was Wimbledon and world cup quarter finals, my wife had to pump in the hotel room and we missed significant sporting moments. In addition, the fridge rattled like crazy at night, enough to keep you up. The air con was not responsive, the thermostat was not calibrated correctly, it seemed to be either on or off. We made these complaints at check out and no discount or attempt at tangible recompense was offered.
Whilst the decor is plush, the room was high concept but the quality of the execution was not quite there.
This might sound critical, but I've been fortunate enough to enjoy many premium hotels, such as banyan tree in al ula, or the ned more locally. The Mandrake is just outright overpriced for what it offers.
Don't get me wrong, it's good, but you're paying for the concept, and in my opinion the hotel doesn't stack up to others in the price range.

Not worth 5*. Rating
The design is genuinely unlike anywhere else in London. The hanging garden courtyard and Jurema Terrace are the real showpiece, and it’s rare to get that kind of green, calm outdoor space this central. The staff were warm and attentive throughout, the kind who remember your name and make things easy. Location is ideal too: tucked away enough to feel quiet, but a few minutes from Oxford Street, Soho and the Elizabeth Line. The bar and breakfast were both a cut above
The one thing worth knowing is that the hotel doubles as a nightlife destination at weekends, with a DJ in the bar Thursday to Saturday. Depending on your room, the noise carries until the early hours, so it’s worth requesting a quieter room away from the bar if you’re after an early night. The rooms also run on the smaller side, though that’s fairly standard for central London.
Lieux unique, à la desc déganté rock’n roll j’ai adoré. Le personnel est adorable. Chambre super bien équipé, les produits de bain sont de qualité et très agréable.
Rien, j’ai tout aimé.
Location in Fitzrovia is ideal for central London.
The design of the hotel is so over the top and creepy that is not really comfortable. Very trendy and full of posers.

Na
This is the first time I’ve ever felt compelled to leave a negative review, which should say everything.
I arrived well-presented, polite, and respectful, expecting a professional standard in return. Instead, I was turned away under the excuse of a “private event” — yet it was very clear from what followed that this was not being applied consistently. The experience left me with a strong and deeply uncomfortable impression that the real reason for refusal was not what I was told.
It’s difficult to ignore how this felt, particularly when you conduct yourself properly and are treated in a way that suggests otherwise. If you’re going to operate a selective door policy, at least have the honesty and professionalism to be transparent about it.
Overall, a very disappointing and unsettling experience. I won’t be returning, and I would strongly advise others to think twice before visiting.
