The room was perfectly acceptable. My complaint is about how the hotel handled our payment.
Our reservation was fully prepaid through Bravofly (Lastminute.com) on February 5 as a non-refundable booking. However, when we arrived, the hotel claimed they had not received the payment and required us to pay a second time.
Bravofly is one of the hotel's booking partners, so confirming the payment should have been handled between the hotel and its partner before our arrival. Instead, the responsibility was passed on to us. Since we didn't want to argue at check-in while traveling, we paid again.
After our stay, I spent weeks sending payment confirmations, invoices, and emails to prove that the original payment had been made. Rather than resolving the issue with their own booking partner, the hotel left me to act as the middleman to recover money that should never have been charged twice.
Although the duplicate payment was eventually refunded, guests should never be responsible for resolving payment issues between a hotel and the company that sells its rooms.
This unnecessary stress overshadowed our short stay in Birmingham and left a very negative impression.
Really, really nice folks working there. Place was also clean and comfortable.
Pillows were bad and didn't like that I had to pay for parking
Everything except paying for parking
20 dollars parking that should be free
The front desk staff were kind!
We were assigned one room and when entering the room the carpet was completely wet, the lamps were falling off the wall, there was blood on the wall that looked as though it dripped down and never cleaned, the toilet didn’t flush, black hair EVERYWHERE, and upon pulling back the top comforter the entire comforter filled with black mold… at that point we went downstairs to get a new room. They assigned a new one that was a “deluxe” king room w/o paying an upgrade. Once there, the toilet clogged and when calling the staff they said maintenance wasn’t in until later and they would have to go look if they even had a plunger. Waited and had to go downstairs to go to the bathroom. Then they came with the plunger that was disgusting. All in all it was just not a nice place!
We loved the room. It was quiet, and dark. I wish we could have stayed longer. The window shades kept the light and noise out. Very comfortable.
The fire alarm light kept flashing. We did go down to see what they had for dinner but there was an odor that turned us away. The Continental breakfast could have more variety of food.
Close to UAB Hospital. Very friendly staff.
The price and having to pay for parking.
Location
Breakfast
I recently stayed at Home2 Suites by Hilton in downtown Birmingham on 18th Street, and unfortunately, my experience was very disappointing.
The main reason we chose this location was because of the excellent experience we previously had at the Home2 Suites location in Hoover, Alabama. That property was superb, so we expected the same level of cleanliness and service. Unfortunately, the downtown Birmingham location fell far short of those expectations.
Upon entering our room, it was clear that cleanliness was an issue. The bathroom sink had brown residue in it, the shower floor was dirty, and there was hair throughout the bathroom. I actually had to clean the bathroom myself before feeling comfortable using it. The couch in the room was also covered in visible stains, making it unusable for us during our stay.
To make matters worse, the ironing board completely fell apart while we were trying to iron our clothes. As a result, we had to iron our clothing on the bed, which is far from ideal and does not provide the same results as using a properly functioning ironing board. This was another indication that the room furnishings and equipment were not being adequately maintained.
I will say that the beds were comfortable, and the hotel’s downtown location is very convenient. Being close to restaurants, entertainment, and other attractions was definitely a plus.
Another major concern was the parking situation. Guests are required to pay for self-parking, yet there was rarely any available parking. To make matters worse, catering vehicles from Taziki’s, a restaurant located across from the hotel, appeared to be occupying spaces in the hotel parking area. Those spaces should be reserved for paying hotel guests.
While the location is excellent, that alone does not make up for poor cleanliness, poorly maintained furnishings, and a lack of attention to the overall guest experience. This stay was a stark contrast to the outstanding experience we had at the Hoover location. Because of that, we will not be returning to this particular property. I hope management takes these concerns seriously and makes the necessary improvements so future guests can have a better experience.
The comfortable beds
That we checked in at 4 am and were unable to get a late checkout.
Breakfast was fine, breakfast workers were extremely nice & helpful
Upon arrival, the bed clearly wasn't made up which I complained about (& I have pictures) & was told to just get the other blankets under the cabinet. I then went downstairs to actually show them pictures of the bed. The lady did call housekeeping to have it fixed, but all they did was strip the bed, never to return to abrasive make it. That was disappointing to have to make a bed that I WAS PAYING FOR, that's not my job. That's why I paid toy guys, train staff to do better & drop the attitudes because it's busy, that comes with the job.
The staff were great and friendly
