Very convenient location (especially Gelatistry!), park, river and old town
Nothing specific
We had a great stay at Abbots Mead Hotel. The room was clean, comfortable and had everything we needed and breakfast was great. The hotel is in a quiet, central location and the staff are friendly and helpful
Nice room with very comfortable bed. Bathroom could have been cleaner. The young woman at check-in was very nice.
Breakfast. As a female traveller you always feel a bit awkward arriving at breakfast in a small hotel. No staff around so just sat at a small table. A woman came bustling out of the kitchen and told me I was at the "wrong' table and made me move to an identical one next along. She seemed irritated that I had taken it upon myself to sit down but there wss no "please wait to be seated sign' so I decided to sit (wrong decision apparently!) The only difference was that this other one was set up with cup and plate. These must have been glued to the table as if I were serving I would have swapped them over in a second. When I perused the cooked breakfast menu and saw no vegan option marked I decided toast would be a good option but upon enquiring if vegan spread was available the waitress looked positively offended and gave a curt response of 'no' as if I was asking for something outrageous. All the other customers stared at me too. Made do with fruit salad and cereal from the buffet (soya milk was grudgingly provided but was weirdly warm).
Clean and tidy throughout.
Great service, good food and friendly efficient staff.
Not keen on.pets allowed.
Close to town centre and river.
Nice reception and lounge area.
Friendly and attentive staff.
Bedroom size and amenities perfect for a solo traveller.
Minor gripes around room cleanliness upon arrival.
These were reported to reception and dealt with efficiently.
Location and parking
Small room- no surface space
Minimal refreshments
Decor tired
Central location & free parking
No problem
Excellent location and parking
Amazing Breakfast
Great location near the river and pubs
Staff really friendly
Shower a bit small to fit into
The location is ideal in centre of old town so can easily walk down high street where there are plenty of cafes, restaurants, pubs, and good range of small independent shops. The breakfast was very good quality and piping hot. The room was slightly smaller than we usually have but was adequate and is limited as old building.
It did not have air conditioning, which usually is not a problem but at time of our stay it was a heat wave. They had supplied a large fan so this helped considerably. I chose hotel as it has a car park, and although it was a bit of a squeeze as I have a large car, we did manage to get it parked each evening.
Great location , very friendly and helpful staff
Nothing
Great position.
Pass
Central location
Excellent breakfast
Attentive and caring staff
Very organised
Nothing was too much trouble
Spotless room
Lovely dining room
Room size gave little space either side of bed
Bathroom was small, making use challenging as a big bloke.
Parking arrangements meant leaving car keys
Could't understand food arrangements for lunch/dinner; lovely menu in bar but no explanation in room of when it was available
Abbots Mead is a lovely building and clearly a very well run family hotel. Nice welcome from the owner made us quickly feel at home. The beds in our twin bed room were extremely comfortable and we were amazed how quiet it was during the night/early morning given our location was very close to the shops near English Bridge. Really enjoyed our breakfasts which included fresh fruit salad and a full English. The member of staff at breakfast was relaxed and very friendly. The breakfast room has been thoughtfully laid out and there is a great view out to the open garden at the rear of the hotel.
We could not get over the fact that this hotel is so close to the main road shops and yet it was so calm throughout our stay. There are spaces for ten medium sized cars at the hotel and a very large car park (St Julian's Friars) within 50 yards. We will very happily stay here again on a future visit to Shrewsbury.
Nothing.
Breakfast free parking location staff
Had the celler room was damp and poor lighting
Great location for looking around Shrewsbury, nice comfortable room and lovely staff.
