The area it is located in.
Lack of knowledgeable staff and the hotel has become very tired looking and room needed a good update.
We have been visiting this hotel since 1916 and it has lost its wow. Hot days in garden with outside bar available was lovely then but not now- only at weekends. Times of staff costs etc probably.
perfect location for exploring the New Forest
For the price I don't think anything much could be improved
Location is fantastic and really lovely outdoor area to relax in. Central to most walks as well, and the look and feel of the hotel is amazing and feels like you are in the English countryside.
Unfortunately, the rooms are unbearably hot, and there is no air conditioning. Also, with two large dogs, it was near impossible to keep anyone cool. In peak summer I do not think that the second floor rooms are inhabitable. There is also a lack of adequate fans.
The friendly professional staff, the breakfast although the food wasn’t as good as when I last visited but it was less busy then. The hash browns were soft instead of crunchy. It’s worth investing in an air frier so food is crunchier when it’s supposed to be. The garden was beautiful. Drinks were great. Loved the table tennis and activities for kids in the garden. The breakfast selection was very good. The rooms were beautiful, cosy and very clean. The bath was brilliant. I’m not a fan of having pepper in my shower gel. Id have preferred a different type without pepper.
We stayed during a heat wave. The fan could have been better quality and it would have been great to open the window a bit wider which wasn’t possible. If the weather continues to get hotter in the spring / summer, it’s worth investing in air conditioning.
I stay here every year, will continue returning. Perfect for children, adults of all ages, dogs and couples. Beautiful place, perfect location, wonderful staff and excellent food and cocktails.
Food service was a little slower than usual but there was a good reason
Everything! We absolutely loved it, what a find. We’re definitely coming back for longer next time. We had a lovely meal. Steak and a pie with some delicious starters. Great selection of drinks, we enjoyed a pre dinner cocktail in the garden before dinner. Very comfortable beds. Breakfast was great, so much choice. The staff were all wonderful, happy & very helpful. Always smiling and happy to help. Thank you.
Can’t find anything we didn’t like about the property. Oh, it was very hot and the window wouldn’t open very high. The fan wasn’t strong enough. We were Kindly given a big fan from reception which was amazing other wise we would have struggled. Provide big fans in hot weather would be my advice.
It was a very pleasant stay. I really enjoyed the food, especially the tasty breakfast. The staff were consistently kind and helpful. The venue was lovely and well maintained, with a nice selection of drinks to enjoy while relaxing in the garden in the afternoon
Nothing to fault.
Lovely, tranquil location.Good dinner and breakfast, and no complaints about the room
Just turn the lighting on in the section of the restaurant not being used for dinner. It was really odd and a bit depressing..The restaurant as a whole was a bit dated, and the service was slow; however, the food was good
Great Location , perfect for walks and cycling
Great facilities in the room ie books to read games and cards to play , generous tea and coffee making facilites and snacks , large Tv with great choiice of channels comfy large bed dab radio , warm and cosy, pillow spray for deep sleep and relaxation peaceful room very clean bathroom adequate staff friendly and attentive made me feel very welcome as a lone traveller great food and service in the restaurant and the bar is cosy wirh a great choice of bevearges
Leaving!
The location was wonderful being not far from Brockenhurst centre but backing on to lovely woods. We were so close to the common that ponies were peeping in to the bar when we had dinner.
The gardens at the rear were spacious and peaceful. We spent most of our time there, including breakfast which the staff readily accommodated. Our dog Mabel was very well catered for and the hotel was really dog friendly. The staff were all incredibly friendly and helpful despite it being a busy Bank Holiday weekend.
There is no aircon - but we did have a fan to plug in.
There was no fridge in the room which was much missed on a hot weekend. The staff kept our dog food for us at reception.
The location was good. The garden was beautiful. The hotel has enormous potential but let itself down with the management of food and beverages.
The bar ran out of lager, beer, cider, wine and some spirits on the first day and was not restocked. My husband asked for lager and was offered a Guiness. The evening menu was short but even then they ran out of some options. On the first day there were 4 staff serving breakfast and it was excellent. On the second morning they only had two staff on and although they worked very hard it was impossible for them to keep up.
Well located and bedroom comfortable the staff were very helpful although there was not enough of them.
The staff were running around like headless chickens as they appeared understaffed.
Dogs everywhere especially in bar area
Location perfect for exploring the New Forest. You can walk over the road straight into a beautiful area of the forest.
Peaceful night’s sleep. Room very comfortable and clean. Parking easy. Breakfast room looking over the garden and good choice of food. Lovely coffee.
Friendly staff.
We reported a minor issue with the shower which was to be attended to. Otherwise all good.
Great location and very good for dogs.
The only thing is the evening meal was not up to standard 6 out of 10
