A great short break with friends walking on Dartmoor
Pros:

The hotel is in a beautiful little town on Dartmoor with a lovely restaurant, bar and lounge and walks from the door. The staff were very friendly and incredibly hard working. Food was really good too.

Cons:

Nothing really important. The showers in the main rooms in the main building were good but had constrained headroom which made showering difficult. Breakfast was great but the filter coffee provided was a bit weak. Minor points, more than compensated for by the positives and particularly the staff. We would stay again.

The perfect place to start our Dartmoor adventure. Castle Drogo just 15 minutes up the lane.

Pros:

Wir waren 6 Nächte dort und haben Dartmoor erkundet. Wir haben uns sehr wohl gefühlt, die Lage war super, das Örtchen ist nett, das Essen gut. Alles in allem eine Empfehlung.

Cons:

Die Ausstattung unseres Superior Zimmers war sehr altbacken und abgewohnt. Die Dusche war kaum benutzbar für normal große Menschen wie uns. Wir haben uns damit arrangiert, weil sonst alles gestimmt hat. Beim nächsten Mal würde ich allerdings ein anderes Zimmer bevorzugen.

Nice atmosphere and good location but some issues
Pros:

Great location. Lovely hotel. Really nice bar and restaurant area with brilliant bar staff who accommodated us well throughout our stay. Delicious breakfast.

Cons:

Our room was located, through the courtyard beer garden, up some stairs. The room was uncomfortably hot and we couldn’t open one of the windows as there was an overgrown bush which came into the room when the window was open. I have also asked 5 times for a receipt and have still not received it.

Staff weren't very welcoming; checkout lady disinterested, breakfast lady didnt crack a smile, or a pleasant word.

“We don’t do omelettes!”
Pros:

I have mixed feelings about this hotel. On the positive side our room was spacious with a large comfortable bed. There were two ‘easy’ chairs but strangely they didn’t have a back so it wasn’t possible to relax in them. For some reason the en-suite bathroom was raised up so when I stood in the bath to have a shower I was unable to stand up straight.

Our experience at dinner was not great. A young man checked his iPad and showed us to our table only for an older woman to say “You can’t sit there!” Our food was good although the table next to us were not at all pleased with their choices. As we were staying and there was no one about we left the restaurant to take our dog for a walk. On our return the people next to us at dinner informed us that the woman who had served us told them we had walked out without paying! In my opinion this was totally unacceptable. We were staying guests!

At breakfast I asked if I could have an omelette as I didn’t want a full breakfast only to be told “We don’t do omelettes”. Any half decent hotel should be able to ‘rustle up’ an omelette.

In summary the stay was marred by a very rude member of staff and we won’t be returning.
