I liked everything about this property , the room , facilities , food , and the Staff are fabulous
There was not one thing I could fault this property for on
Very home like
All great
Breakfast was absolutely beautiful, fresh and tasty.
Absolutely nothing
Clean room, comfy bed, good food. Close to Kynren.
Food was amazing, staff very friendly, room was perfect
Extremely well maintained, and possibly the cleanest hotel I've ever stayed in, even after we had used the room (the cleaners did an outstanding job). The rooms were relatively spacious. Plenty of parking. Very good breakfast, made to order each day, with good quality ingredients.
The biggest difficulty is that there is no-one in attendance outside specific hours. There is someone on-call, but that became a problem. We managed to leave our keycard in the room (you really need to be given two, but we only got one), so we called to ask someone to let us in. That led to a rather confusing conversation, where the person seemed to struggle to understand the problem, but at the end they seemed to say they were on their way. That's fine, and our fault for forgetting the card. But after half an hour of standing in the hall with no-one coming, we called again. Another odd conversation, where after explaining again that we couldn't get into the room, we were asked "What are you looking for?" - as though it wasn't clear we were looking to get into our room. Finally we got an explicit statement that she would come to let us in, and within a few minutes there she was - and then it became clear what the problem was, as she was very friendly but also very strongly "under the influence" of alcohol. Ultimately, that's a big problem. Relying on people being on-call is fine, but they need to be reliably available - we shouldn't have been stuck outside our room for nearly an hour because the person supposed to be available, potentially for emergencies, decided to have a night drinking. To be clear, other than that, everyone we met was professional and helpful, so this was a specific experience, but if we had genuinely had an emergency it could really have been a problem, rather than just a major inconvenience.
Beyond that, the "spa" room was spacious, but difficult to use because of the heat. There is a window, but only the top portion of it opens, and whenever the spa was used, or the shower, the room would be unpleasantly hot for hours afterwards, even with two fans running.
Overall, it's a nice hotel, but there are issues that need to be addressed.

Lovely and clean room and facilities. Staff were so friendly and helpful allowing myself to check in early and get changed for wedding nearby. Couldn’t have been happier with my stay.
I have stayed at the Thomas Wright House before with my husband, and because it left such a lovely impression, I knew it was the only place to book for a special weekend away with my dear friend. We have just finished a two-night stay, and "amazing" doesn't even begin to cover how truly wonderful it was. From the bottom of our hearts, thank you to the entire team for making our break so deeply memorable and comfortable. We arrived late on Friday afternoon, feeling utterly shattered after a grueling three-hour-plus drive up from Staffordshire. The moment we stepped inside, the exhaustion melted away. The team immediately wrapped us in the warmest hospitality, offering us drinks and letting us decompress in their gorgeous garden. Sitting outside, looking over the rolling hills and beautiful, peaceful landscape, was exactly what our souls needed after that long drive.
Our room—the Tucana room—was an absolute sanctuary. It was spotlessly clean, amazingly comfortable, and filled with so much thoughtful attention to detail. It had absolutely everything you could ever think of or need. But the food—my goodness, the food! We had a reservation in the restaurant on Friday evening, and it was quite simply some of the best food I have ever eaten in any guest house or restaurant. Everything was freshly made, perfectly cooked, beautifully presented, and the portion sizes were incredibly generous. You can tell that the chef genuinely cares about every single thing that is plated up. It is pure talent and passion on a plate. Breakfast the next morning was equally spectacular, with decent, high-quality homemade food that set us up perfectly for the day. What truly makes this place the absolute gem that it is, is the people. The staff are nothing short of angels. They are so genuinely friendly and could not do enough to ensure we were happy. They took the time to talk to us about the stunning local area.
Nothing i can say I didn’t like
I was made very welcome from the moment I arrived and I enjoyed talking with the people at reception. I liked the room and the bed was comfortable. I appreciated having a large fan on a stand for the hot weather, and the fact that the window had manoeuvrable shutters inside, so that I could keep the sun off in the middle of the day. The house itself is very interesting. The breakfasts were excellent, and the staff helpful and friendly. I enjoyed taking my time over breakfast, as each day I then drove to the next village (Middlestone Moor) to help my friend with her unpacking, as she has moved house recently. The drive from hotel to my friend's house was through beautiful rural landscape. And the hotel's parking is plentiful and convenient.
The hotel is within a short drive of Bishop Auckland and Durham, which I include in my photos.
Altogether a pleasant and enjoyable stay!
I was mildly troubled by the steepness of the stairs, but nothing really qualified as "not liking" it.
The property is in an excellent location for what I require if for.
So very welcoming. Lovely staff and food. Well furnished modern rooms
From the outside I wasn't sure. Car park unmade and the bottom half of the exterior of the pub at the front spoils the overall look. First impressions were completely wrong based on the outside appearance. We had a great stay.
Good location, friendly staff. Spacious rooms and good breakfast.
Very friendly staff and exceptional food & value.
