Lovely stay
Pros:

Huge room, very comfortable and large bed. Excellent food in the restaurant.

Lovely trip on NC500

Great location, lovely room and friendly staff

Cons:

The lounge area that is shown on photos is not there so only a small area to sit before dinner
The worst thing was that every day the kitchen was missing something so on a quite basic menu there was no haggis for breakfast, no steak for dinner and no peppercorn sauce another day. These are all staples to a Scottish hotel and should not be missing !!
We then went to the sister hotel Marine hotel Brora and they have virtually an identical menu !!

We really enjoyed our stay, it was everything we hoped for.
Pros:

Staff were friendly and welcoming. The bedroom was cosy large and light with a bath with a view. Big bed with lovely linen. Dinner and breakfast was very nice.

Perfect Anniversary Stay
Pros:

It was our 40th Anniversary and the hotel went the extra step to make it special! The room was perfect; roomy, romantic, cozy and very well appointed. They reserved a lovely window table for our dinner and brought us a special celebratory dessert. The hike in the morning to Castle Varrich was a delight. We couldn't have asked for more!

Good base to explore north coast. Cape wrath to John o Groats. If you don’t mind single track roads!!!
Pros:

Quirky old Hunting lodge. Large bedroom, comfortable super king bed. Attentive bar and restaurant staff.

Cons:

Unsure about the value for money spent
Pros:

The staff interactions were great overall. That was the best part.

The room was clean overall, with a complimentary small bottle of sherry. It had comfortable bedding and pillows. The heater in the room was effective.

Cons:

Food was disappointing overall. For dinner, we ordered Thai monkfish curry and chicken skewers. The fish did not taste like Thai curry at all and the skewers seemed more like smoked chicken in a wrap with some veggies. Value for money spent on it felt like a disappointment and feedback was shared nicely, and acknowledged. Breakfast was okay.

Also, there are no elevators or easy ways to take heavy luggage up the stairs (if your room is on the second or third floor).

The room (including bathroom) on the top floor had a slanted roof, which makes it difficult for taller people. The shower cubicle felt small.
