Great Hotel
Pros:

We are frequent visitors to the Crown and Mitre.
It's situated in the best place for cafés, shops and a very short walk to the Cathedral .
There's a car park to the rear of the hotel which is a huge bonus.
Really pleasant helpful staff on reception too.

Cons:

Only negative was our bed and pillows which weren't at all comfortable 'for us' .
This is a personal opinion so other visitors may find them to their satisfaction.

A grand hotel with history
Pros:

Reveption staff very welcoming and appreciative of my needs as cycle tourist. Safe storage arranged immediately.
Excellent breakfast in one of grandest rooms. Good choice of menu items.

Cons:

At first, room key refused to open door. Summoned staff, two came (!)
Unexpected force needed to twist key to gain access. I could manage when shown; others, including my wife, would have difficult. Staff said I wasn't first person to have this issue. Surely a case to be looked at. It got me off to a bad start.

Location was good.

Cons:

Tap wouldn't stop running all the time in the bath. Wallpaper hanging of the walls, toilet seat wouldn't stay up, tv not working,very dated room indeed of a refurbished.

Clean bedding towels...centrally licated for shops /train station and pubs...staff helpful and having pool lovely extra and private carpark a plus also lift....
