Do NOT let the valet park your vehicle in their lot. This is my first time submitting a bad review for a Marriott (or any other) property. We had almost $1000 damage done to our door handle (chunk cracked off) and door (large scrapes). The valet company insists that we checked the vehicle in with that damage because "they took pictures when we checked in". We know that the damage was not there--it was significant and clearly visible. We used that door to pull a cooler out of the car when we checked it in. If we had been blind and didn't see it--we would have felt the significantly damaged door handle.
While complaining to the front desk about the damage, another guest was moving his vehicle because he witnessed a different incident of the valet scraping another couple cars--which the valet denied. That guest was livid and is a Marshall--who would you believe? This valet service is a hot mess.
I spoke with Bonvoy customer service regarding the valet and their response is that the "vehicle was checked in with damage per the valet".
I also submitted information to Bonvoy regarding our shower having significantly dirty brown/black (supposed to be white) grout and bottom of shower door. Never received a response past the auto response that said they would get back to me. Extremely disappointed.
The hotel itself was generally nice and updated, which is why I’m giving it 2 stars instead of 1. Unfortunately, the stay was overshadowed by a reservation issue that staff made no effort to resolve.
I booked and received confirmation for a double-queen room for three adults, but upon arrival we were given a king room with a pullout sofa. The hotel acknowledged there had been an issue with the reservation and stated that they had notified the travel portal/credit card travel service that double-queen rooms were unavailable. However, I was never informed of any change before arrival or I would never have booked Hotel Bella Grace in the first place.
What made the situation even more frustrating was that the hotel blamed the travel portal for the issue, while the travel portal later pointed the finger back at the hotel. As the guest, I was stuck in the middle while neither side took responsibility or offered a meaningful resolution.
The pullout bed that was supposed to serve as a sleeping space for an adult was extremely thin and uncomfortable, and both the couch that was supposed to be the headrest and the mattress had visible, gross stains on them. In addition, the shower had buildup and grime in the corners, which made the room feel less clean than expected and not worth the price. It was very easy to get trapped in the bathroom as the sliding glass barn door would get stuck and someone would have to open it from the outside.
Mistakes happen, but what was most disappointing was the lack of accountability and customer service. Had anyone taken ownership of the problem or made a genuine effort to make things right, my review would likely be very different. As a Marriott Bonvoy member, I’m extremely disappointed and would not recommend this hotel to anyone.
The location was very good for walking and the room reasonably appointed.
Front desk staff was adequate but mostly indifferent. The room rates probably spiked for Spoleto (which I was not there for) but the value was not good: No in house food service (restaurant next door, no breakfast doesn't count), no frills in bathroom (lack of hooks, facial mirrors) and unimpressive towels. It's almost like Marriott took a charming hotel (which I'm guessing it once was) and plucked the soul out of it.
We enjoyed our stay at Bella Grace! It is a beautiful property and the staff is kind and attentive. The only reason for 4 is because the water in the shower was never warm. I would have called it tepid at best. Great location and nice place to stay.
Loved our stay. Staff was extremely helpful & made a couple solid food recommendations locally. Manager was on top of our needs. Will be staying here for our next Charleston getaway in the fall.
I had a great experience at Hotel Bella Grace in Charleston. The hotel was spotless—both the room and common areas were impeccably clean, and everything felt fresh and well maintained. The staff stood out: everyone I interacted with was warm, attentive, and genuinely eager to help. They offered excellent dining recommendations within walking distance. The location made it easy to explore historic Charleston, and the overall vibe was boutique and welcoming. I’d happily stay here again and recommend it to anyone looking for a clean, comfortable hotel with truly helpful, friendly service.
My concerns began prior to even arriving at the property. I did not receive any communication regarding my upcoming stay, which was disappointing given the price point and expected level of service.
Upon arrival at 12:00 PM, the front desk staff informed us they would call when our room was ready. We never received a call, and when we returned at 4:30 PM to check in, the experience continued to fall short. We were told there was champagne waiting for us, but it was sitting in a completely melted ice bath. The coffee station was unclean, with dirty, wet rags left behind the machine and used cups present. Even the water tasted as though the filter had not been changed.
Once in the room, the issues persisted. The coffee machine malfunctioned and became stuck when we attempted to use it. I called the front desk and was told someone would come up to fix it. By 7:30 PM, no one had arrived, so I called again requesting assistance and two bottles of water. A staff member who identified herself as the “manager” eventually came to the room, bringing two warm bottles of water. Unfortunately, her level of customer service was extremely disappointing. When I asked if we could use amenities at the adjacent Marriott, I was curtly told, “go ask.” When I requested ice, I was instructed to go down to the gym to retrieve it. At $650 per night, basic conveniences like ice on each floor should be expected.
Additional issues included a bathroom sink that drains very slowly, clearly in need of maintenance, as well as a dirty bathtub, floor, and trim. On Saturday morning, I opened my door to find clean towels left sitting on the hallway floor. Later that evening, when I went to the gym for ice, I noticed the clock was not functioning due to dead batteries.
Furthermore, your website advertises concierge service; however, when I inquired, I was told that this service does not exist at the property.
The following day, I spoke the Assistant General Manager. While she was pleasant and listened to my concerns, I was told I would hear back by Sunday. Sunday came and went without any follow-up.
At this level of pricing, attention to detail and quality service are not optional—they are expected. Unfortunately, this experience fell far short of the luxury stay that was advertised. Also, the amenities were subpar at best.
Given the number and severity of these issues, I feel that I was misled when booking this property.
I had the pleasure of staying here for the Charleston food and wine events. Such a lovely atmosphere here at Bella Grace. Don’t sleep on this charleston hidden gem!
Generous roof with a kitchenette .
The service provided was excellent, beginning with our arrival at the valet and continuing through to the front desk, where staff members were exceptionally welcoming. We look forward to returning in the future.
Wonderful experience! From the time we checked in, until we checked out two days later, every expectation was not only met but exceeded. Robin the GM, Hayden in the front office and Nathan at the desk were wonderful!! They were all very professional, friendly and made us feel like we were at a cozy boutique hotel. The location is spectacular, walking distance to everything in downtown Charleston. If you want a special hotel that embraces southern hospitality, then Hotel Bella Grace is the place you should try out.
Safe travels 🙂
We absolutely, positively loved this hotel! From the moment we walked in, we knew we were in the right place. When we entered the room, we were so impressed with the beautiful decor, modern furnishings and amenities. There is a cooktop, microwave, and full size refrigerator/freezer, as well as a dishwasher. The bathroom is gorgeous and has everything that we needed. We are so happy that we chose the Bella Grace! It is within walking distance to everything that we wanted to do in Charleston. We shall return!
Very clean and centrally located
We found this amazing hotel after having a bad experience at the first place we stayed at and all I can say is that I wish I had booked this originally. Quiet, well decorated, small hotel with everything you could possibly want in the room. Give this place a try.
Loved this adorable boutique style property. The staff was super friendly, and very helpful with directions. This hotel is under marriott, so I was also able to get Marriott points as well, which is even better!! Will definitely be back :)
Everything, clean, super staff
