The Grey Gull Hotel

The corridors and stairwells of poor quality, not clean nor welcoming. The fire door didn't shut properly and had broken glass which must be fixed. The rooms ok but not particularly clean or comfortable.

The room was very small, with very limited facilities. It was barely adequate for one night. There was no double glazing, so there was a lot of traffic noise from the main road in front.

Run down building.
Car was blocked in so I couldn’t go to see beavers at dawn as planned.

Two of us had previously stayed and were looking forward to a return visit. However very disappointed at state of rooms and in particular the poor service from the staff. It felt as if the target guests were contractors rather than tourists.

We had two rooms - Bedrooms 1 & 2 which appear to have been refurbished but:
In room 1
Bathroom hot tap loose
Toilet base covered with grey cement type substance
Plastic bowl on side in bathroom
Toilet cistern taking ten minutes to fill up after flushing
Curtain too heavy for the curtain rail
Ground floor window with beautiful view which was completely obscured by a contractor’s transit van parked right up against the wall.

In Room 2
The double bed was a small double
Shower tap not attached
Drains smelt bad

Only one towel per guest provided. The towels were supposedly bath sheets but were thin and small, no hand towels provided

In the Restaurant the service from the bar / waiting staff was very poor.

Menu board not up dated to reflect soup of the day.

One of our party did not want starter, but their main meal was bought out with other three starters rather than with the later main meals.

This was a pizza but the base was not cooked properly and was inedible, only able to unable to eat the pizza crusts, had to scrape topping off base and could not finish meal.

Then the other three Main courses were brought out before starter plates had been cleared away.

We had to ask staff for cutlery for mains, and were then only offered forks so we then had to ask for knives.

One was the pie, which when ordering we were told had boiled potatoes but instead came with mash. All three meals were dry and we were unable to finish any of them.

At no time during the meal did any member of staff come over to ask if everything was ok, which is normal practice at most places we eat.

Once we finished eating, no one came to clear the plates away, we had to summon staff and try to complain but felt they did not understand.

Bathroom wasn't great with the shower impossible to achieve a good temperature. Finish of the bathroom a bit shoddy and the door didn't close properly. A bath in the room itself which was a bit weird for a family room. TV was dated and only free view and not a smart TV. Bar and Restaurant area was a strange layout and the decor wasn't appealing with all the pictures, fixtures and fittings looking like stuff from Temu.

The shower was practically useless.
Water pressure meant that I could only get a very very poor dribble of water.
I had no choice but to use it.

Shabby, tired and in need of renovation. No lift. Not good value for money.

The room smelled of damp and mould
The room was dirty and wall had black mould on it
The window had multiple cracked window panes
The window sill and skirtings had not been wiped for a long time
Mould on all windows including bathroom
No coverings on bathroom window which was open to public area
The heating did not work
All public area carpets grubby
No space in car park as full of vans for the workers staying in hotel - eg
WISH I HAD NOT DISREGARDED THE NEGATIVE REVIEWS!!

The bed was uncomfortable. The dressing table stool was too short and the water pressure was very weak.

The very loud and modern music in the dining room. The huge tv blocking the view of the sea in our bedroom which was number 7. The door at the top of the stairs had a smashed glass pane which looked as if it had been there for a long while. The outside of the hotel is shabby and needs weeding.

The beds were really small - we booked a double room (1x double and 1x single) and the double was more like a queen size was really small and short.
