Very special
Pros:

The Hall and Location are stunning. The grounds relaxing. Amazing history. Lovely areas to sit outside, in the library and drawing room. Amazing chandeliers. The staff are lovely. Also, the local pub 2 minutes walk away is open Wed to Sunday and has great food and drink and outside seating in a garden setting.

Cons:

The cooked Yorkshire breakfast was only average. Sausage had water running out and were tasteless and the eggs were overdone.

The above is food for thought for the owners
Pros:

A lovely house beautifully presented. Lovely gardens. Would we stay again. Yes. But see below

Cons:

The food was dull and unimaginative. The hotel and its customers deserve better. Having stayed twice and wanting to stay again the owners must do something about presenting food that matches the accommodation.

Promised much but disappointed overall
Pros:

Beautiful building, furnishings and surroundings; comfortable air conditioned room

Cons:

1. understaffed (although staff were helpful and friendly) e.g. there was no one to carry our bags to our room on arrival except the receptionist who helped; we waited 20 minutes for someone to take a pre dinner drink order on our first evening; we waited 30 minutes for our breakfast order to arrive on our first morning
2. odd that one has to walk through the often occupied orangery dining area to access our room, particularly when struggling with luggage
3. disappointing dinner menu - the food seemed more like pub food than fine dining

An enjoyable family birthday celebration stay
Pros:

We spent three nights at Goldsborough Hall for my father-in-law’s 90th birthday, with nine of us staying across five rooms. Overall. we had an enjoyable stay.

The food was very good and the service throughout was excellent: friendly, attentive and professional without ever feeling intrusive. The Hall is set in a lovely village (Goldsborough), and has particularly stunning gardens. The head gardener was also wonderfully enthusiastic about sharing her knowledge, thoughts and ideas, which added to our enjoyment of the gardens.

We also liked the fact that the owners live in the Hall. They are clearly involved in the business, but do so without being intrusive, which gives the place a rather nice personal feel. We thought the accommodation represented reasonable value for money, although this will inevitably depend on the room category chosen.

If we had one reservation, it is that parts of the Hall are beginning to look a little tired. Some of the décor and carpets, in particular, feel somewhat dated. There are areas with rather more of a country pub feel than you might expect from a grand historic hall. That said, this is very much a matter of presentation rather than comfort or service, and it did not detract significantly from our stay.

I would also flag that the ground floor accessible room is somewhat depressing, with limited natural light and no outlook. For someone with a limited walking range, it is also a relatively long walk to other parts of the hotel, including the car parking facilities. Fine if you are a wheelchair user.

All in all, Goldsborough Hall provided a lovely setting for a very special family occasion. Good food, excellent staff, beautiful gardens and a relaxed atmosphere made it a memorable three-night stay.

Wonderful Intimate Hotel
Pros:

We stayed at this wonderful hotel at the end of July to celebrate our 25th Silver Wedding Anniversary. We had a wonderful stay and were made to feel very special by all the staff.

As we stayed on a Monday and Tuesday, we dined in the Orangery restaurant. The main course we both ordered initially wasn't available, but the chef went out of his way to make it for us, so we weren't disappointed, which was a wonderful touch. All of the food we experienced at the hotel was delicious.

The hotel only has a small number of bedrooms, so it had an intimate feel to it. The grounds surrounding the hotel are beautiful, and it was lovely to have the freedom to roam around. We especially liked the kitchen garden and having cream tea on the terrace.

We'd love to visit again near to Christmas, to enjoy a wintry walk around the grounds, followed by a fireside whiskey in the library. Thank you so much for making our special occasion so lovely.

Good but could have been better.
Pros:

Breakfast was fine and the Orangery was exceptional. All the staff were brilliant.

Cons:

Patio Adjoining the room was grubby and full of weeds. The room was ok but not exceptional. we were very surprised to find the bar separate from the lounge and unmanned although a very obliging gentleman was on hand to serve us if necessary. Maybe we were unlucky but there did not seem to be much of an atmosphere about the place.

Lack of care
Pros:

We visited for a special occasion, it was the 80th birthday of a very close friend. The hotel requested feedback (which I have pasted below). What is disappointing is the complete lack of response. We had a mixed experience. We booked lunch to celebrate the 80th birthday of a close friend.
When we arrived, the lady on reception greeted us in a very professional manner and commented that we had booked lunch as an 80th birthday celebration, however, this was the only time that the reason for our visit was mentioned which was disappointing, as I thought that the hotel would have done something to make the visit seem more special.

We arrived early with the intention of having a pre-lunch drink but were actually shown straight to our table and after been offered water and given menus were not spoken to again for 15 minutes.

When a member of staff was passing, I had to request a full wine list as only a limited drinks menu had been left. The next interaction we had was with a member of staff asking if we were ready to order food. We said that we were ready to order a pre-lunch drink and ordered a bottle of champagne.

Things began to improve however when Christophe arrived. He immediately changed the whole mood and gave us 1st class service. He immediately recognised me as someone who had visited his restaurant 30 years ago and was quite superb.

We finished the meal with coffee in the library, but unfortunately had to chase the petit fours and were told that it was our fault that we hadn't been served with them as we hadn't specifically asked for them (despite the fact that coffee and petit fours were show as a single item on the menu).

The food was wonderful and well worth the almost £400 bill, but to operate at this level and at these prices it's important to get the little things right, and on this occasion you didn't.

We will visit the hotel again (as we have in the past) but will think twice about visiting again for such a special occasion.

Kind regards

Great experience as a wedding guest, & Alyssa ensured dietary requirements were catered to!
Pros:

I was a wedding guest on 23rd July 2026. I was the only guest with a dietary requirement and Alyssa on the hospitality team was so helpful with ensuring I received suitable canapés during the drinks reception. I felt well catered for and not at all a burden - thank you Alyssa!

A wonderful haven and retreat away from the hustle and bustle of The Great Yorkshire Show.Thank you.
Pros:

The Hall and it's gardens were lovely. The staff we met were mainly excellent. The room [Wheaton Suite] was very nice. the food was very good. The air conditioning was wonderful!
There were lovely touches from the owners, who took the time to write a personalised welcome message and met us during our stay.

Cons:

I should qualify these comments as wishing to be constructive, not picky and something I would like to know from my guests, should I be the owner of Goldsborough Hall.

1. The control for the shower was placed as far as possible away from the access point to the entrance of the shower. This meant that you had to remove all your clothes, then get into the bath [spa/jacuzzi type], then press the start button and then wait for the water to warm up [on a very hot day, it took 53 seconds. I am assuming it would take a lot longer in the winter]. Perhaps move the control panel to the shower opening [it's moveable as I have the same model] so you can start the shower without standing naked in it waiting for the water to warm up. Better yet, make it a walk in shower as, at 68, getting my leg over and into the bath tub is not so easy!

2. Very limited space to put toiletries down in the bathroom. We would have been quite happy with a single sink which would have allowed more space to put out our ever growing toiletries / medicines [it's no fun getting old]. Do couples use double sinks at the same time? We just go into the bathroom one after the other.

3. The waiting staff were all lovely, but, as the bar was not 'manned' on either night, I did need to go hunting for staff when I wanted pre-dinner drinks [both nights of our stay]. One night I followed the instructions to go to reception to ask for drinks but then had to queue whilst guests who were arriving were booked in at reception for their stay. I am sure there is a more efficient and stylish solution for such opulent surroundings.

Overall a charming and beautiful location with friendly staff; however would benefit from better co-ordination/organ
Pros:

Very beautiful location and it feels a million miles away 2026! Takes you to a slower pace of life, where nature helps soothe the nervous system.
The jacuzzi/whirlpool bath was a real treat!!
Air con in the room was pure luxury!

Cons:

We stayed in the Hutton Suite which was very lovely and well thought out. How, there was a hole in the duvet cover where the seam was ripped. The room whilst generous proportions, the carpet has a few stains on it.
We came down for dinner that we’d booked for the orangery and was relocated to the dining room which wasn’t really an issue. What we did find a little annoying was that we’d arrived for our dinner reservation a couple of minutes before the allocated time and was told to wait in reception. A member of staff came by around five minutes later and told us to just wait a little longer to be seated as she was just in the middle of a job. Whilst we were waiting for her to return an older couple went straight in and seated! We waited for approximately 10-15 minutes to be seated whilst other guests were going in! We just found it very very odd we were singled out to wait in the reception. I am disabled so standing around is quite difficult.
In the morning we attended for breakfast and were given the menu. I chose the eggs Benedict and my husband had the Yorkshire breakfast. We weren’t made aware that you could order something else that was not offered on the menu. We heard other patrons asking for breakfast plates that were not listed on the menu; again we felt that we were not being made aware that you could ask for something not listed. I really fancied a bacon sandwich and had I known that I could have had one, if I asked, I would have ordered one.
The eggs Benedict would have marvellous had it not been for the wafer thin sandwich ham. On the menu it read as though the ham you’d receive would be a thicker slice of Yorkshire ham. Being a five star hotel, I’d assumed the ham would have been locally sourced and hand carved. It felt/tasted like supermarket bought sandwich ham.
This feedback is not intended to be picky, just to highlight some inconsistencies which with better communication and expectation management can be easily resolved.

Nothing more than ordinary service with nice enough rooms.
Pros:

The manor is gorgeous and the owners seem to be trying to create a luxury weekend stay. But we didn’t get that memo. We were treated with neutrality. We never felt special or really welcomed. We were sort of just there. Perhaps it’s because we reserved through Booking.com. We do get that often. There was nothing but ordinary in the service which meant I am not likely to ever return.

Cons:

Old building, no lift we were told. Except for the hidden lift, apparently saved for guest who said no stairs.
