Location was perfect if you like lots of restaurants and the old town. The staff were very friendly. Breakfast was excellent and bed was comfy. It was affordable for this area. I’d stay there again.
Decor was a little dated, but this didn’t bother me. I found the pillows a bit too soft and small. There was some street noise, which is typical for this location.
We needed a room near the train station on short notice after a change in plans, and picked the Hirschen for the value, as it was mostly just a spot to sleep and grab a breakfast before catching our train. It fulfilled that need. The location is great, in the heart of Niederdorf, the breakfast was good, beds were basic but comfortable enough, the staff was kind.
It's a very old building and the hotel leans into its history. It's a bit dark inside, and we had to climb many stairs with our bags in tow, both to the lobby from the street-level entrance, and to our room. Not terrible for us, but may be disqualifying for others.
The staff was very personable and the rooms were simple but comfortable. I loved the history of the hotel and the location couldn't have been better!
There was no airconditioning however, they do provide a fan.

Location, location, location. It is right in the center of Zurich, close to restaurants, sightseeing places and easily accessible. Surprisingly clean and tidy too!
For the value that we got, there's nothing wrong about the hotel. It is located in a busy area so noise can be an issue if you get a front facing room (whe didn't. it was extremely quiet)
De locatie is prima. Tien minuten lopen van het centraal station, ligging aan een gezellig pleintje met veel horeca van allerlei soort en kwaliteit. Leuke winkels in de buurt. Veel tramlijnen in de directe omgeving.
Het hotel zelf is redelijk knus (intiem), geen gelikte uitstraling, geen formulehotel. Geen grote luxe, maar alles werkte.
Het ontbijt was basic continental. Dus geen gedoe met worstjes, uitgebakken spek en witte bonen (uch!). Het brood was vers en erg lekker, net als het broodbeleg. Goede koffie. Maar bijzonder was dat iedere gast bij binnenkomst van de ontbijtzaal gevraagd werd of men een gekookt ei wilde hebben en zo ja, hard of zacht gekookt. Die vriendelijke en persoonlijke benadering van alle gasten vond ik kenmerkend voor dit hotel (net als bij de balie) en voor mij reden om een 9 als waardering te geven.
De temperatuur van het douchewater varieert enorm. Van koud naar lauw naar warm, binnen enkele seconden en dat continu. Je moet wel erg oplettend onder de douche staan om je niet te verbranden.
