The hotel’s location was the biggest drawback. It is situated between Karuizawa Station and Naka-Karuizawa Station, making it quite inconvenient to get around. The road in front of the hotel is a busy main road, so walking is neither pleasant nor practical. You will likely need to take a taxi or a bus. However, the bus only runs twice an hour and is often delayed, while taxis require an additional dispatch fee when booked through the local taxi service.
We stayed in a Japanese-Western style room on the ground floor of the new building. Unfortunately, the room was located right next to the private hot spring baths, which resulted in a very damp environment with a noticeable musty smell. The wooden deck outside our room was even blocked off because the boards had warped due to the moisture, which clearly reflected the humidity issue.
The only highlight of our stay was the breakfast. The ingredients were fresh, and the quality of the food was excellent.

The location was perfect, staff friendly room large and very clean.
The room was on the first floor and the internet connection was very bad which was a bit problematic for us. The breakfast was 3,500 yen which was a bit too expensive for us to try.
好吃,吃得很饱
One feature I appreciated was that the private open-air baths could be used without a reservation between 8:00 a.m. and 11:00 a.m.
During my stay, the bathroom drain overflowed, and I had to move to another room. I called the hotel that night, but no one answered. I was only able to contact the hotel through the booking site’s messaging system. A staff member came to inspect the drainage the following morning.
Before booking, I called the hotel to ask about the rooms and chose one based on the information I was given. However, after arriving, I found that the information I had received was not useful in helping me choose the room.
Throughout my stay, I repeatedly experienced situations where the information I received was inaccurate or incomplete.
Whenever I called the front desk with a question, I was rarely connected to someone who could answer it immediately. I had to wait on the phone every time, and I was never offered a callback.
When I asked what time the spa opened, I was first given information that did not answer my question. After I repeated the question, the staff member went to check without saying they would do so, and returned without acknowledging the wait.
On the morning of check-out, I went to use one of the private open-air baths during the reservation-free hours (8:00 a.m.–11:00 a.m.), but both private baths were locked. I returned to my room and called the front desk. I explained that the outer entrance doors were locked, but I was told that if the doors were locked, the baths must be in use. After I explained the situation again, the staff checked and later confirmed that the baths had not been unlocked by staff that morning.
Regarding room cleaning, I was first told by housekeeping that all requests had to go through the front desk. On another day, housekeeping asked me directly what time I wanted my room cleaned. When I gave my preferred time, I was told it would not be possible. However, after checking with the front desk, I was informed that the requested time was available.
The building is old, and sound carries easily between the rooms and hallways.
