Meals were expensive at the restaurant
This was honestly one of my favourite accommodations during our Japan trip and somewhere I would definitely stay again.
The hotel has a very understated luxury feel — elegant without being flashy — and it genuinely felt like a home away from home. The location is excellent because it sits on the quieter side of Kyoto away from the heavier traffic and crowds, yet everything is still within very easy walking distance. You can quickly reach Teramachi, Nishiki Market, restaurants, shopping areas, luxury stores and transport links very easily.
The room itself exceeded my expectations. I especially loved the shoji screen panels, which gave the room a more authentic Kyoto atmosphere and almost a subtle ryokan feel while still being modern and comfortable.
What really elevated the stay for me was how thoughtful the hotel was overall. Details really matter, and this hotel clearly thinks carefully about guest comfort.
Some of the things I really appreciated:
- complimentary bottled water daily
- free slippers and loungewear/yukata-style clothing
- tote bags for carrying items to the public baths
- soft slippers for the tatami flooring
- complimentary Epsom salts (which genuinely helped my fibromyalgia pain)
- hairbrushes, razors and other thoughtful amenities
- public baths included for guests
- laundry facilities at a very reasonable price
The public bath area was especially lovely and very relaxing after long days walking around Kyoto.
One of the highlights was also the complimentary cultural experiences offered by the hotel. We were able to meet a maiko/geisha performer in the lobby, take photographs and watch part of a performance free of charge as guests. That was such a special touch and something you would normally pay for elsewhere. The hotel also offered tea ceremonies and other experiences which made the stay feel much more interactive and memorable.
The staff throughout the stay wer
The main issue for me was the pillows. Although there was a mix of sizes, they were extremely soft and memory-foam style, so my head sank very deeply into them. I often woke up with neck pain and found it difficult to get comfortable at night.
The room layout was also slightly too compact at times, especially around the bathroom entrance and wardrobe area. If you are travelling with larger suitcases and shopping bags, the room can begin to feel crowded quite quickly. There were not many hangers and not much dedicated luggage space, so storage became a little difficult during a longer stay.
One thing I personally struggled with was the inability to open the windows behind the shoji panels. As someone with asthma, anxiety and fibromyalgia, I sometimes need natural airflow rather than continuous air conditioning. At times the room felt a little claustrophobic for me because fresh air could not come into the room naturally.
I also would have appreciated slightly larger bath towels, as the towels provided felt relatively small.
Although the overall stay was excellent, I do think there could have been slightly more consideration around check-out support. Because of my medical condition and mobility difficulties, mornings are not easy for me physically. While staff were very helpful assisting with luggage upon arrival, when it came time to check out I received a call shortly after 11am reminding me about departure, but there did not seem to be the same awareness that I might also require assistance bringing heavier luggage downstairs. We ultimately had to manage this ourselves.
That said, none of these issues outweighed the positives for me, and I would still absolutely recommend the hotel and happily stay there again.

Espace réduit mais bien pensé

Très bon saké.
Ne pas pouvoir accéder au onsen si on a des tatouages.
Lovely, high-quality room, with both a standard tea set and kettle as well as proper matcha bowls and whisk, the tea, coffee, matcha, etc were replenished daily, and more tea + other amenities could be fetched freely from downstairs (not the matcha, though that made sense). Hot bath was very nice, just the one bath, but was surprisingly not busy during the times we went. Spa area is key card access so is secure, there was even a tote bag provided in the room to carry stuff down with you during your stay. Bathroom was very nice, surprisingly spacious (as Japanese bathrooms go). The TV turned on automatically to a sort of greeting screen when you enter, which was a bit of a startle at first but we ended up rather liking it. Seats around the table near the TV were nice. Breakfast was nice, self-serve buffet, and the in-house coffee place was also good both for drinks and food.
It was my friend's birthday during our stay, which I made the hotel aware of in advance, and they made her the cutest towel elephant, yellow paper flowers, there was a personalised happy birthday note, a maiko-themed coaster as a gift for her, and free drink tickets. She absolutely loved it.
There isn't excessive space in the room for luggage unpacking/packing, but this is only a minor issue. Choice of drinks in the evening is a little limited if you do not drink alcohol (and do not want coffee late at night), but I may just be picky!
Best place we stayed in the whole of Japan, in our opinion.
