The North Hill Hotel, Colchester

Can’t open the windows more than an inch. No blinds in the bathroom so you need to close the window & sweat while using the toilet or shower or risk the whole street seeing you! When the sun is shining the bathroom is blinding!!! Curtains in the room were terrible, falling off the rail! And a street light right outside was not helpful as we couldn’t close the curtains!!!
Very basic shower, soaked the floor as the doors do not shut properly.

Staff weren’t particularly friendly. Very noisy, playing music downstairs in the restaurant area. You can hear people going up and down the stairs. Pillows were not comfortable, quite thin.

No AC, only a small fan - it was very hot. Room was fine but small.

Old building in need of improvements

We arrived having booked a King and 2 double rooms, paid the hotel, to then be given a King, Double and single room- for 6 adults (3 couples). The hotel was full, and despite showing proof of my booking there was no apology and they refused a refund stating I had to go through Booking.com. We had to find an alternate accommodation as we had an event at the Castle Park to attend. It took me many hours of calls, emails, messenger contact to receive my refund from the hotel and then it was a bank transfer rather than back on the card I paid on. Still no apology for the waste of time, energy and money. Booking have been brilliant at helping me resolve, however.

Rooms very small, but adequate for a short stay

Quite noisy at night and room was hot

No toiletries, not even soap provided. Breakfast vey overcooked fried food, eggs solid. Toast cold and tea luke warm. Shortage of staff. Noisy road but that’s not hotels fault.. small room and small double bed very uncomfortable and mattress didn’t seem to fit the bed in room 3. Don’t write bad reviews but thought this place deserved it. FYI staff polite but breakfast staff probably need some customer service training,
