Stonehaven is a small city, highly hyped mostly due to Dunnotar castle (NB! actually just some ruins in a beautiful location) and a picturesque port... nothing much more. The port is actually far from the Hotel 44 (that I did not expect carelessly checking the map). We arrived by train, as it was suggested by AI... again: a small beautiful place, but the distance from the station to the hotel is quite long, especially with some luggage. (My suggestion: take the bus from Aberdeen or elsewhere, cheaper and comfortable EMBER, in particular - it takes you to directly to the Market square next to Hotel 44).
Well, about the hotel: there is nobody usually in the reception desk. Waiting there is useless; ask from the bar.
Two rooms, really have a stunning wide sea view, others not. (We could observe a bit of the sea only during high tide from our window. The roof that covered most of the view demonstrated interesting lively wild social life of different birds around the clock. There are different people in the breakfast room every day i.e. most of visitors stay in this hotel for one night only. - Small rooms do not provide space or furniture for organizing your personal stuff, no place to put away a suitcase. There are no racks to hang used towels... apparently that's the norm here: you arrive (with no luggage), spend a night, leave used towels on the floor and leave. - No.44 hotel is perfect for this kind of visits, not for a comfortable longer stay.
Bar and restaurant next-door is very popular and busy. I was impressed by the number of restaurant staff they hire for one evening shift and all together: we spent 3 nights i.e. 3 breakfasts and 3 dinners and did not see any of the bar tenders or waiters more than once (with one exception).

Room was clean, very good bed. Breakfast was good. Friendly staff. Location was perfect. We parked our car at the market square, very convenient.
There could have been side dishes included at the breakfast.
Wir hatten ein grosses Luxus Zimmer mit Aussicht direkt aufs Meer. Wir konnten bequem am Fenster sitzen und den Wellen zuschauen.
Beim CheckIn waren unsere Zimmer noch nicht bereit. Wir wurden gebeten, in der Bar zu warten. Leider wurden wir noch informiert, als das Zimmer bezugsfertig war.
Badewanne war etwas klein.

Beds were very firm
The staff were excellent , especially the charming girl serving breakfast on Sunday 23rd August. The breakfast was good. All the staff we encountered were pleasant and welcoming .
The decor in the hotel needs freshened up. It is very dark and dowdy . The room No20 was very small and looked
on to a rather shabby roof , although you could see the sea. The bar and reception are very shabby.

Zimmer und Bad klein, nicht komfortabel. Die Sauberkeit nicht ausreichend.
Non molto sinceramente! Ci avevano dato la camera con vista mare e i vetri delle finestre erano sporchissimi! Camera molto piccola, lavandino piccolissimo, moquette molto sporca. Colazione, alla carta, abbastanza buona.
