Went with a group of friends for a breakfast meeting as we had done in the past. What a change! we knew that it had new owners and that the restaurant was now Indian but as it was still a hotel we expected a decent breakfast on offer as we had had before
The full cooked breakfast was served on cold plates the food was cold Chicken sausages and Turkey rashers! egg had been standing around and the toast was still white. Most sent the food back and the veggie offering was not much better. We will not be going back and as a local i have been going since it first opened. I felt sorry for the front of house team Simon and Paul.
The staff were pleasant, and welcoming .
Tea and coffee with kettle ,supplie 👍😊
The rooms was on the 2nd floor, which was fine, but under the eaves, therefore my husband cracked his head often on the corners, even i did a few times when I forgot to duck, and I'm only five foot one!😂.
The carpet looked disgusting, horrible stains all over it, which gave the impression of being dirty.
The hotel was situated on a very busy road, which then explained the provision of earplugs on the bedside cabinet. Very noisy during the night, and lorries passing caused vibrations!
The shower area over the bath was curtained off, leaving a very small area to shower in, thought the shower was good and powerful.
Excellent for a short stay in beautiful Chester.the communication was great and facilities very well maintained. Quiet and comfortable.
.
Just good value for money, no frills.
The venue was close for our work. The Indian meal we had was tasty.
We were very disappointed with the venue ,from our original booking this venue changed ownership, which had not been updated or corresponded with us. The smell in our room from the bathroom was at times unbearable. The food we thought was gong to be available was not as with the change of ownership, so we have to find alternative places to eat,
Only a quick review as we used it as an overnight base for an event we were attending.
On arriving the staff that met us were polite and helpful. We only had an hour to get ready before we had to make our way to a pre booked event a short taxi ride away.
They booked the taxi for us that was there waiting to pick us up at the correct time, which as we all know sometimes more than not you are stood round waiting for it.
Anyway, we stayed in room four which was just at the top of the stairs from reception, it was spacious, well presented and clean. The only thing that stood out was the headboard had been pulled away from the wall and was loose. I'm guessing we can all use our imagination as to how that happened!
Another thing I did notice though that when walking from the bed to the bathroom the floorboards squeaked that much that they probably woke the rest of the hotel up. As a man of a certain age I did this a couple of times during the night so I apologise to the other guests if I woke you.
There was a newly refurbished Indian restaurant as part of the hotel. We can't review that as we didn't use it but looking through the door it presented itself as clean.
Looking at the website before staying over we were under the impression that it had a bar.....it does but it is alcohol free and you have to bring your own if you want to use it. I'm not sure if this is something new that ties in with the new restaurant but something to be aware of for the future.
No need to worry about parking either, there's plenty of it which is always something that is on my mind as I drive somewhere I've not stayed before.
Overall a good hotel to stay in, I just hope those floorboards can be sorted soon.
Advertised as a pub with food , turned out no bar licence now ,and has changed over to an India restaurant,
No Bar
Great for the price
Excellent staff. Very helpful and accommodating. Despite arriving outside of normal checking time they waited for me and even prepared a full meal ordered 10mins before the restaurant closed.
If you don’t need a place to stay go and eat the food. I know Indian cooking and I can safely say it’s the best biryani I have eaten in a restaurant anywhere in the UK including all the fancy London ones.
Water pressure was dismal. Really really minimal and took ages for warm water to come through. The hidden areas of the room could do with more cleaning attention - I am being very picky here, behind the tv for example.
A little bit further from Chester than I normally pick but actually only a pleasant 20 min stroll along the canal to the centre. Value for money so much better, rooms very clean, loads of free car parking and a very good Indian Restaurant within the Hotel. Would definitely stay here again.
On the top floor I could not get the WiFi to connect properly but that’s just a niggle really.
The parking
Lack of a bar
No cooked breakfasts . Lack of heating in room. Lack of storage facilities in rooms. Lack of a seat in room to watch tv. No staff at night when things go wrong and help is needed.
Locus and price
Mid refurb zero behind the bar
Piss poor shower
Me and my brother went to Chester races and managed to book this room on the day through calling reception and speaking to Paul. Paul is an absolute asset to the place he helped us with everything even gave us a phone charger and helped book our taxis. The room was extremely clean, was only a £10 taxi to and from town. There is nothing I can grumble or moan about . AMAZING
